In the Desert

I found the composition captivating... loved how the dust blowing through the cliffs and boulders creates an eerie atmosphere with the peaks barely visible while the foreground seems intact and oblivious of what goes on in the background as if to convey that vegetation forms a barrier holding back the desert that wants to eat up everything in its path. Fascinating how the game of light and shadow plays on the wind sculptured dunes, almost as if created by the hand of a sculptor and then lead the eye to the vastness of the desert stretching into the horizon making sure one does not forget the emptiness and bareness of the landscape. The play between the light and shadow and the texture on the sand dunes makes this composition stand out in my view. Viewing the image I feel that the overall result successfully communicates the desolate aspect of a desert while the dark areas on the top left and right hand corners evoke a feeling pf getting lost in the vastness of the desert. Loved the simplicity of the composition and how the subject is standing out against an empty background, the colors (or mostly absence of colors to be more precise) and how they communicate the desolate nature of a desert, stripped even from color and the overall mood the image conveys.
