Incurable melancholia

This is such a powerful image , full of emotions , and it is not easy to write a review as words don't come easily while looking at it . It must be a difficult image to look at for the photographer too . Is it a portrait of him in the frame on the wall ? Maybe . This image demonstrates how love can be so powerful , eternal , how amazing and painful it can be sometime . I personally haven't seen the cat at first sight , and I think that the funny face he does add a strange but good contrast to the sadness on the other side of the photograph . Congratulations for winning the contest .

There is so much of true emotion here . You can really tell that it is not fake and that is what's giving this power to this shot . Referring to the title of this photo , "reunited" , I believe that they haven't seen each other for too long . Longer than they could really endorse apparently . It brings me a pleasant sensation though , I feel happy for them and I am sure we all do . This is a great spontaneous capture . Very well seen !

Beautiful composition and point of view here . I like this noir kind of photography style , and that look this lonely lady is throwing at us is strong . Why is she here alone ? Waiting for who ? We can imagine all kinds of scenarios while looking at this image , we will surely never know the truth , but I already have my little story in mind . Maybe a date with a lover and some kind of impossible relationship story ? This is a very emotional capture , congrats !

I really like the color tones in this photograph . It matches really well with the kind of vintage nightie outfit the woman is wearing . The composition and the "posing" of the subject are quite unusual and that is why I had to stop on this photograph . Why is she hiding her face and falling down like this ? There are questions that arise while looking at it . Did she just learned about a very good news or , on the contrary , a sad one ? You choose the emotion you want to see in this beautiful image .

This is a very well composed and framed photograph . The black and white contrast is perfectly balanced as well as the light and shadows . The subject seems to be lost in her thoughts . She is maybe waiting for a phone call from her children , or maybe a visit from her grand son , who knows ... Again , a very well accomplished story showing the solitude of many of our elders . Congrats for making it into the top 10 !

This is fan interesting photograph . Shooting a human subject in an abandoned building or places surrounding is is always a great mix for dramatic photography and I really enjoy that . The posing of the subject reflects some king of madness which is intriguing . For sure a very moody shot , the black and white processing is well done and I would have chosen it for the top 10 if the image quality was a bit better . But the scene is super cool .

I think the composition here is great , sharpness and details are perfect and depth of field too . This is a very powerful portrait that makes the viewer think at first sight , "what is he thinking about ?" . Well , nothing very serious but just a word that won't fit in the crossword he is doing . I can tell that this man has a lot of character . This is an interesting and perfectly timed street capture . Very well seen and done !

This is a very powerful image . Composition and exposure are great , the warm color of the light bulbs is beautiful , but what make it a strong image is the story in it . This lady , which is in her 60's maybe , watching this young couple enjoying a moment together while she is sitting here alone , chewing her nails . She is surely thinking about something that is important to her . I can feel some anxiety and for sure some melancholy as well . Nicely captured !

This is a great shot . This kind of minimalism , and of course the weird shape of that tree , as well as the positioning of the man , really create a dramatic and moody photograph . The fog in the background also add something to it . I feel that this man needed solitude for a while . How many of us never take the time to disconnect ourselves from our busy everyday life for a moment , to be alone and bored doing nothing but just wander and look around for a moment ? I see some kind of a story in this beautiful photograph . Well done !

The color tones in this image are amazing , as well as the beautiful model , her pose , and the overall mood . The mix of warm color light coming in from a window I believe and those cold bluish colors from the tapestry and the shirt she is wearing , just matches really nicely . She might be a professional dancer , or maybe she used to be and now missing the thrill of a ballet dance . Again , and as many other photographs in this contest , the story is open . Beautiful !

This is a well framed image and the distortion of the wide angle lens gives some kind of dramatic mood to it . I can really smell the dry fishes just by seating here , right in front of my computer screen . This young lady seems to be tired from her day . I like the little smile she has on her face while taking a nap . She might be dreaming about something pleasant . Again , a great story here in this photograph .
