There's something deeply moody and yet calm and sophisticated about this image. The low-key contrast and cool colour tones create a serene atmosphere, while the empty chair speaks volumes about absence and presence. The graphic pattern of the cushion provides a bold visual counterpoint to the organic forms of the plant, adding balance and tension to the composition. This deliberate juxtaposition draws the eye across the frame, creating a visual conversation between nature and design. But what ultimately made this image my winner is that it is much more than just a documentation of a houseplant- it comes with a story. I love how this carefully curated scene reminds us that houseplants serve beyond mere decoration—they become silent companions in our moments of solitude and reflection. They add liveliness and optimism to our home environments. Here, the plant is gracefully reaching for light which suggests movement, connection and vitality in this otherwise still and dark space. The empty chair invites contemplation, suggesting a space where one might sit quietly alongside this living sculpture, allowing its presence to influence our mood and thoughts.

This artistic approach elevates plant photography to another level, capturing not just the physical beauty of houseplants but also their emotional resonance in our lives and spaces. Big congratulations on your well deserved win!

This image has a beautiful nostalgic look that immediately pulled me in. The vibrant cyclamen flowers make the perfect pop of colour against all the vintage elements around them. I love the ornate metal backdrop with all its patterns and swirls as it creates a great textural contrast with the simple wooden ledge and the delicate flowers. The lighting has this moody, almost cinematic quality that makes the purple blooms seem to glow against the darker background. I feel like with this picture you've created a perfect little moment that feels both vintage and timeless.
Lovely mood and great capture. Congratulations on placing in my top ten!

A truly beautiful image that caught my attention as soon as I saw it. Those anthurium's fiery red blooms against a moody grey backdrop create such a lovely balance of strength and grace. The textural contrast between the sleek white pot, raw wooden surface, and textured background generates visual harmony without competing with the subject. But what truly makes this image special is the thoughtful, natural lighting—it caresses the glossy spathes so they glow as if illuminated from within, while shadows add depth and mystery. This interplay of light generates a living, breathing quality to the plant reminding us how it constantly interacts with light, space, and time in ways that reward our attention.

Excellent work and big congratulations for placing in my top ten!

This orchid capture has a wonderfully moody atmosphere to it. I like the high contrast and the use of light and shadows which makes the image vibrant and dynamic. The dark, shadowy background creates this intimate space that feels personal and almost secretive. I also like the addition of the mister bottle to this composition. Its colour perfectly echoes the orchid's purple hues, drawing our attention through the entire frame rather than just focusing solely on the flower. Finally, what makes this image special is how it captures not just the beauty of the plant, but the relationship between the grower and their orchid. That vintage-style mister bottle sitting beside the simple plastic pot tells a story of care and attention. A story that feels both authentic and lived-in. Well done and congratulations on placing in my top ten!

This is an outstanding quality close-up of a flamingo flower with a great clarity, sharpness and attention to detail. The colour contrast is what really gets me—those rich green outer edges against the soft pink interior, all set against the dark background that makes everything pop. The lighting is perfect, making the spathe look almost translucent and revealing those delicate veins running through it. I also love how the composition focuses so tightly on just this single bloom. It accentuates the beautiful shape and the soft, wavy curves of the flower giving it a rather elegant and feminine-like quality. This image transforms something we might have sitting on our windowsill into something that feels animated and exotic. Beautifully seen and captured. Well done and congratulations for placing in my top ten!

There is something very special about this shot - a sense of aliveness and graceful movement that makes the plant look like a dancer caught mid-performance. It doesn't merely exist in the frame; it seems to float and twirl against that cool blue backdrop, each leaf positioned at a different angle as if responding to music only it can hear. What strikes me most is the extraordinary lightness you've achieved in this image. Those cream and green marbled leaves appear almost weightless. The light catches their forms in a way that reveals their watercolour-like delicacy—you can almost see through them in places. I also like how the pot matches the background and compliments the green. It adds perfect contrast without competing for attention. You created something that feels both dynamic and very gentle at the same time. Great work and congratulations on your well deserved top ten!.

There were many orchid images in this contest but for me this one really stood out from all the others. Photographing white flowers can often be technically challenging but I can't see a single flaw in this capture. The exposure and lighting is spot-on, revealing all those intricate details and patterns without any harsh shadows or blown-out areas. The pure white petals with their delicate purple speckles seem to float in the darkness, creating this incredible sense of depth. What really draws me in is the vibrant centre of the bloom—that explosion of magenta, yellow and purple looks almost like a tiny artwork within the larger flower. I love how the composition includes the little green buds on the left, giving us a glimpse of the orchid's life cycle and adding that perfect touch of contrast to the whiteness of the open blooms. The black background eliminates all distractions and creates this intimate moment between viewer and flower. Stunning work. Congratulations on your well deserved top ten!

There were many macros and close-ups of houseplants leaves in this contest but this photo captivated me the most with its perfect combination of artistry and natural beauty. You captured something almost hypnotic in the perfect symmetry of these fronds. Ferns are common houseplants, but the deep emerald greens against the dark background in this image creates this incredible depth that makes me feel like I'm peering into a secret world of a rain forest. Each tiny leaflet is so crisp and detailed, you can almost feel their delicate texture. The repetitive pattern feels both soothing and fascinating at the same time. There's something about this shot that feels both wild and perfectly ordered. It's not just showing a plant- it's revealing the hidden geometry in nature while still feeling organic. It transforms something we might walk past without noticing into something worthy of prolonged study.

Outstanding work and congratulations for being my runner up!

This is such a gentle and elegant capture of anthurium flowers. The soft blush tones with some hints of green at the edges create this dreamy, ethereal quality. The pure white background and the white vignette seems to be a perfect choice for that matter. Also, what really draws me in is how you captured both the delicate translucence of the flowers and their subtle veining. You can almost feel their smooth, waxy texture just by looking at them. There's something almost sculptural about the whole arrangement, like modern art rather than just a houseplant. A really fresh and artistic take on a plant that could easily look ordinary in less skilled hands. Very well done and congratulations for placing in my top ten!

This miniature garden scene immediately transported me to a peaceful Japanese garden. You've captured a beautiful little world with so many textures and elements working together. I love how the bonsai-style pine creates height on the left, while those bright pink flowers add just the perfect pop of colour among all the greens. The variety of plants is what makes this so interesting to look at—we’ve got that pine, the soft moss-like ground cover, the slender flower stems, and even some stones adding a natural element. It feels like a landscape you could walk through rather than just a potted plant. The shallow black dish frames everything perfectly without drawing attention away from the plants. There's something really calming about this arrangement—like someone carefully created this tiny slice of nature to bring some peace indoors. It makes me want to get closer and explore all the little details. Well done and congratulations for your top ten placement!
