A truly original take on a figure in the landscape. In this case a very artistic and abstract take on the relationship of humans to their increasingly urbanised environments. A silhouette isolated perfectly into the middle of the frame, within a montage of textures, lights, shapes and lines that seem to want to overwhelm him. A Brilliantly observed scene captured with perfect composition and light. A deserved winner.

A great image. An atmospheric and poignant one that suggests a narrative.
The ripples emanate from the vulnerable figure making it all the more powerful. I am not a massive fan of black and white, but here, it's used to great effect, with the inky blackness of the water adding to the "dark" feel to the picture. A wonderfully evocative image.

As the author of this image has said, he has captured perfectly, the sense of scale and perspective in this truly exotic picture. Also, the texture that the swirling wind picking up the sand, adds to the visual power of the image. The colours and lines in this image make it really striking, and i love the line the shadow of the figure makes as he walks along the dune. A brilliant photograph.

Wow, what strong colours!. Such a vivid picture with simple elemental lines to it, making it all the more striking. The image is perfect for it's elemental ingredients - colour, light and composition. The vibrant saturated green, separated at the perfect point up the frame, by a darker, more for boding blue in the upper two-thirds of the frame, that suggests more powerful things are going to happen. The isolated figure is starting to look even more isolated and vulnerable. Great image!

Lovely light and colours in this image. So vibrant. Getting the boy to swim just under the surface of this glass-like water nearer to the camera would give it an interesting look. Or maybe capture some movement would make this image a bit more striking.

An image full of atmosphere - different pools of light separated by lines and interesting composition throughout. I feel if the solitary figure was more of a striking component in this image, it would have more power. Maybe in a different space within the frame, or doing something more arresting. A very strong image.

Such an evocative image!. Powerful in its grandeur and simplicity. Great composition and use of natural light. The figure is wonderfully positioned in the frame - not least because we only see the top half of him, from behind, as he looks into the muted milky, dreamy landscape that envelopes him. Giving the image a very poignant feel. The atmosphere this photograph gives out makes the image feel like it's part of a bigger story - It looks like a film still of a scandi-noir thriller. A superb, dreamy image that holds your attention even though nothing is happening. Brilliant.

A wonderfully witty image using urban surroundings. The huge hand point accusingly down onto the tiny figure minding his own business. Crucial however, to this message in the photo, is to get the figure in exactly the right position in order for your eye to follow the giant finger's line of direction right onto the top of his head. A little to the right of the frame would have made the figure be in that exact position. A great image though.

On a spring day in 1839, Louis Daguerre captured the first known photograph of a person. In an expansive view of the Boulevard du Temple in Paris, Daguerre caught the everyday scene of a shoe shiner and his customer. Inspired by this, we'd like you to have a go at submitting your own photo that captures an individual within a much bigger scene. We're looking forward to seeing your interpretations. Good luck!
