There's so much here to love. The color compliments are terrific! And of course capturing a front view of the heron with a meal, excellent. Seeing the entire bird here would make it perfect! The contrasting soft orange and rusty hues with the striking blue of the fish, really make the lime green and red of the eye area pop in this fab photo! Thanks for sharing!

There are so many elements of this photo that appeal to me as a photographer. The green layer of leaves in the foreground, the terrific, tightly captured bokeh circles throughout the background, the reversed positioning of the juveniles, and foremost the character of the moment that it captures. I also love when sunlight illuminates the gullet area from the inside when these herons thermo-regulate. I feel like this capture epitomizes all I was looking for in this contest. Thanks !

Congrats on this capture. While I wish there were a clearer single focal point on the capture, the overall is terrific. The vitality it captures and the angle of the juvenile feeding is amazing. It also shows off areas of the plumage we don't typically see on nesting or resting juveniles! The overall capture is wonderful! The raised neck plumage on the adult and the forward push of the juveniles vying for the meal. Congrats.

Show me your photos of juvenile herons in their natural habitat. In most cases young herons differ from the adults so greatly in plumage, leg and eye colour, that a non-bird enthusiast may mistake them for an entirely different species of bird. I am especially looking for photos that highlight the beauty and character of these fascinating young birds.
