Part of Amateur Photographer of the Year 2017

Open Rating Results
Brief

For this round, we want to see your landscape photographs. Landscapes require the application of the most fundamental rules of photography. The scene is made or unmade by the light and requires that you learn to break down the scene, and mentally reduce it to its most essential components in order to make sense of chaos.

No matter what kind of location you’re shooting, planning is a must, so make sure you know the area. Are you in the best position relative to the light and composition? How does the weather affect the scene? And try to shoot in raw as you’ll have a lot more information to work with in post-production. While a shallow depth of field can look beautiful, also try maximising your depth of field. There’s nothing more breathtaking than a sharply focused landscape.

The panel's 1st place photographer will win over £1000 of Sigma products, and the crowd's 1st place will win year-long subscriptions to Amateur Photographer magazine and Photocrowd.

To qualify for entry into APOY your primary income must not be from photography or photographic services.

How it works

Every photo submitted will be available for the crowd to rate once the submissions period has ended. In this contest, the entries are hidden until the rating period begins.

Some contests on Photocrowd also have a judge. After the submission period closes the judge chooses their favourite images and writes some image reviews. The crowd and judge results will be announced on the same day.
