I like the subject and the composition of this shot, and and the coour tones work really well. it could have easily made my Top 10, but whilst some of the shaded areas seem well exposed, the sunlit parts of the image I feel are too bright. In particular the sky does not have enough detail and is quite blown out in the top right, which is emphasised by the added white border which blends seamlessly with the image.
This is a solid composition and interesting subject, and the high contrast black and white is certainly striking. However I'm personally not a fan of this kind of heavily sharpened image that jumps out of the screen. My old eyes don't find them too easy to look at for long, and I'm not sure it's the best way to convey the beauty of these trees that the photographer has quite rightly chosen to capture. I'd be interested to see this image again on Photocrowd in one of our nature contests, but with a lighter touch applied to it.
I love what the photographer has done with the composition of this image, which I've chosen as my winner in this highly competitive New Joiners 'Landscape' contest. The deliberate 50/50 land + sky, the centrally placed path leading to the hills in the distance. Importantly the wintry scene is not overexposed, in fact has an overcast feel to it, and there is still plenty of detail in the bright cloudy sky. Well done!

A very original image, and well worthy of a Top 3 spot in this contest. It's technically strong, I love the low angle from which the image is shot, and the cow is nice and sharp. I think that the two pigeons are a distraction and would like to see the image with them removed, which would focus attention exclusively on the cow and the bridge.
