I just adore this image and your description really does do it justice, you can feel the cold in the morning light and you have captured that so well, plus with the use of black and white, I feel this is adding to the dramatics in the image. The good positioning of the buildings within the frame is nice and strong. The lighting on the dog's fur as it trundles up the road is just another lovely element of this well-composed image.
A very different POV and image that I have not come across while judging the competitions and I just loved this as soon as I saw it. The grand positioning of the tower and adjoining silo/tank in its isolation just draws my eye in. The flat sky compliments the bleak vegetation and the rust on the water tower, they all complement each other so well and for me one of the biggest factors in why this made it into the top 10
Another really powerful image that shows the harshness of the landscape and really pulls the viewer's eye in. I love this location and have only been here in the fog, so can only imagine how crazy it would have been here in the snow. The use of the building and adjoining fence and trees that are part of the setting all work so well together. The framing works really well, the exposure is perfect and I also like the use of the sheep for a further sense of scale within the shot.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** A little sub-niche of the landscape genre for us here, as we look at how buildings within landscapes can add some flavour and points of interest to our images. For the landscape photography purist a building may be a reason to reach for the clone tool, but to others it tells how we interact with, enjoy or use the land. All buildings are welcome, from fairytale castle to cowshed, and indeed the buildings might even make up a majority of the shot if you’re submitting an urban landscape.
