Landscapes With Water

What a great image!. The photographer looks like they are familiar with this terrain and he/she knows best how to capture it's uniqueness. The photographer has made sure to arrive in time for the cool blue early morning mist shrouding itself around the trees. The tree shapes, themselves, as well as the colour of the foliage add to the striking qualities of this top class image. Well done.

As the photographer has already said, they have taken a lot of time and effort to capture this scene and it has certainly paid off!. A truly beautiful, and very well composed shot that has the lone tree placed perfectly. There have been so many fantastic photos to choose from in this Landscape competition; not least because beautiful scenes often present themselves to the photographer, but this image goes further. It evokes a feeling; an emotion when I look at it. The photographer here, has captured the aesthetic through the decisive moment - the unmistakable winter light breaking through the cold blue winter forest, and onto the silvery water at the bottom of the frame. The photographer has not only captured perfectly the light and the composition but also that decisive moment. All the three key elements to make this image so beautifully memorable. So evocative! What an amazing image!. It's like a scene from Lord of the Rings - a fantastical, almost fairy-tale landscape brought to life by the midnight sun that gives this image a slightly surreal quality as the weak soft light paints the green and blues of this landscape around the water cascading down the from the rock. The slow shutter speed means that everything is pin-sharp whilst the water achieves that painted, brush stroked look. Well done!

A lovely scene made lovelier by the back-lit sun rays shining through the foliage and onto the flowing river that's shot with a low shutter speed for added effect. It's also well composed with the bridge placed where it is and the water cascading in alternate directions all the way down the frame into the centre foreground. A very well thought out photograph.

I love this image for it's original and very intelligent look at a landscape with water. The landscape scenery is the visual reference and the complementary backdrop to what our eyes go to, which is a meadow flowers scene in the foreground; all throughout is a beautifully composed image with all the elements within the frame perfectly balanced. A beautiful shot.

The photographer has come to this landscape with a very definite concept in mind to shoot; rather than just to record a beautiful view. This is why it's impressive. And he/she has also pulled it off. An image evoking the primeval beginnings of the earth. Dark and brooding with the menace the lightning bolt gives.. The monotone element really works, as does the slow shutter speed capturing the swirling water around the rocks that look make them dinosaur-like creatures. A cracking photo!

This is a powerful and striking landscape photograph, obviously making the best use of what a lot of good landscape-with-water images do, which is to capture reflections of the terrain in the bottom half of the frame. But this goes one step further as it captures a remarkable silhouetted figure walking right across the middle of the frame against a brilliantly lit and spectacular mountain range, complete with a stunning blue sky. A great image.

This is another brilliant landscape photograph that captures the aesthetic in an abstract way, making it worthy of high art. Here, the colours, lines, shapes, textures and light are strong and striking rather than subtle and painterly. I love the dark charcoal sky separated from the the lighter textured beach, by a line of white foaming waves heading for shore. A photograph I can look for hours at. Superb. Well done!

Talk about a figure in a landscape photo!. A beautiful image, with a lovely subtle wash of blue and purple all over, that is surrounding a lone figure on a sandspit looking out to the beyond. The fact that there is little visual reference points to look at, and no horizon and just the figure in the centre, make it surreal and other-worldly. A truly great photograph.

A very striking image that goes for the abstract take on a watery landscape. This time from above, using lines shapes and textures. The monotone effect adds yet more to it somehow. I love the variation in lines within the frame from both the jetty and the waves hitting the beach. A well thought out and artful photograph.

I love this image!. What incredible light the photographer has captured; falling perfectly onto the soft lines and curves of the fluorescent green hills, as well as highlighting the lone white cottage. Then above the undulating curves you have the sharp straight line of the strong blue sea horizon, and above that the lighter blue of the perfectly cloudless sky. This photographer has expertly captured a wonderfully bucolic scene. Perfect light and perfect composition. Well done.
