Lovely image! It intricately captures the transition between autumn to winter. I love the contrast between the vibrant hues of the leaf and the gray frost it is emerging from. Great attention to color and detail here, too. Well done!

Wow, great use of layers and lighting here to creatively interpret the theme! I love how you’ve used silhouettes to capture two kinds of leaves—one in shadow, and one in light. I appreciate seeing all of the texture in the larger leaf, too. Great job!

Great use of macro photography here! The image really transports us into the world of the cutter ants, and I can’t help but imagine a dialogue between the two insects as they encounter each other. Nice attention to color and lighting, as well. Well done!

So neat! Great job with perspective and color, which work well together here to abstract the autumn landscape. At first, the density and small size of the leaves makes me feel as though I am viewing a fuzzy, red-and-orange carpet, or even a pixelated image. Well done!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 251 and 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Whilst we include trees, shrubs and other plants in our landscape images, we seem to be less inclined to get up and personal with the beautiful leaves that clothe them, for at least half the year. It is indeed one of the joys of photography that it can encourage an appreciation of our world on different scales. For this contest we’d like to focus in a little more detail on the structure and colour and variety and interplay of leaves. That said, images of trees and shrubs in their entirety are of course welcomed, but let’s make the leaves the stars, whether they be on the tree, off the tree, green, brown, flat or needle-shaped.
