Leaves

Fern foliage is so delicate and photogenic. This is an unusual approach and I like the result very much. Having used the process before I know how challenging it can be to get the colours and shapes right. I love the positioning of the leaf and the gorgeously patterned background. Definitely an image for a wall. :)

A dreamy image with subtle colours beautifully evoking the gentle, melancholic side of autumn, a time of letting go. The reflection of the tree in the water and the floating leaves create a tree of its own. A very poetic image. I like the clouds and other trees at the top as they add interest.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Whilst we include trees, shrubs and other plants in our landscape images, we seem to be less inclined to get up and personal with the beautiful leaves that clothe them, for at least half the year. It is indeed one of the joys of photography that it can encourage an appreciation of our world on different scales. For this contest we’d like to focus in a little more detail on the structure and colour and variety and interplay of leaves. That said, images of trees and shrubs in their entirety are of course welcomed, but let’s make the leaves the stars, whether they be on the tree, off the tree, green, brown, flat or needle-shaped.

Such a clever idea to take the shot from below, it can (and does!) make such a difference if you change your perspective from time to time, so well done for providing a different and refreshing answer to the brief. The leash and the path lead the eye and all colours harmonize beautifully. If it were my image I'd be inclined to crop the bottom a bit to reduce the blurry, leafless part.
