Another top image from this competition, the glow on the water and the light carrying through the clouds is just perfect, the photographer's dream. So many times we go out and it's just grey, but this image is a nice reminder of how amazing it can get out there. I like your placement of the lighthouse on the left and the horizon in the middle works very well, but one of the stronger parts of the image apart from the stunning light has to be how well you have got the path into the shot and also to lead out of the frame, very well done indeed.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked below 1000 in this week’s Leaderboard.** There are more than 250 lighthouses in the UK, and at their peak in the USA there were 850 in operation. It’s the combination of their unique design – such feats of engineering – and their solitude, set against some of our wildest coastal landscapes, that makes them such a compelling subject for photographers. You might choose to shoot one during blue hour, when the artificial illumination is set against the natural light of the sky. Or why not fit a 10-stop filter and go for a long exposure that reflects the passing of time and the scudding clouds above? Then, of course, there’s the option of including crashing waves on the rocks below the lighthouse, demonstrating their strength against the wildest of elements.
Really well done indeed with this, the power of nature and the challenges of trying to get a decent shot in the storm are fairly evident in the image and you have nailed it, you can just feel it all. What I like a lot is the little whites on the water all over the shot and moving in many directions, lots of photographers crop those out in favour of leaving some space for the tops of the wave, but I love being able to see how churned up all the sand is with the water and the ferocity of the water all over the image.
There were quite a few entries from this location, but none others that looked anything like this, coming down lower and catching that light on the cliff face really has worked in your favour to give you a different point of view, something that is always good to try every now and then. The rest of the image is powerful too, with really good tones in the sky that are being picked up in the movement in the water as well, plus the whole image is just detail-rich and I like that a lot
