This is a lovely image that makes the most of a single performer on his own, under just one light source. As with a lot of jazz images, the photographer has shot it in black and white, taking the photograph from an angle that sees the rim-light fall down the front of the saxophonist and leaving the rest him floating in the inky darkness to give the image real mood. i also love the steam/mist/smoke rising from his head. Great photograph!
This is a great image that says everything about the magnetism of a live performance. I love the combination of lighting and framing in this image - they bring the best out of each other. The muted blood red of the crowd in the foreground and the backing group in the background wrapped around the central figure in the middle ground; at the height of his performance as he throws his head back - lit under a bright white light during his guitar solo. All the figures in this photo floating in a black canvas. Great use of a longer lens where the photographer has made sure to capture the energy of both the band and it's audience, and the inter-action between the two. A brilliant image. Congratulations on a winning photograph!.
What a great concept - intelligently using a photographic technique to show that feeling of loneliness the lone performer has out on the streets of a big city, as the human traffic whirls around them, hardly stopping to listen. The photographer has used a very slow shutter speed to blur the movement of all the passers-by , whilst keeping the singer pin sharp in the centre of the frame, isolating her, drawing the viewer in. Well done for creating a brilliantly constructed photograph.

I love this photograph. Making the most of that thick mist rising from the back of the stage to give a real mood to this image. The photographer has waited for the singer to move along the top of the pile of amplifiers; forming a perfect silhouette; with each of the other band members on both sides of the frame. The fact that it's in black and white seems to enhance this striking and very emotive image. well done!.

**This contest is open to photographers ranked between 1 and 250 in this week’s Leaderboard.** Capturing the raw energy and emotion of live music can be a joy, and many photographers are drawn to it. As well as the musicians themselves, the live music scene is rich with colourful characters, crowds and venues. Photographing live music comes with its challenges - not least, balancing the lubrication of one’s creative faculties, with still being able to operate your camera.
