Lizards

April 2018

Gorgeous light and stunning detail make this a stand out image for me. So many entrants had out of focus shots and poor light but you nailed both with this stunning shot! the colours are not over done and the subtle darkening of the surrounding foliage really helps to draw the eye in to where the photographer wants it to be. Excellent technical shot.

I nearly missed the story in this image and only when i went back to it did I notice the tiny mantis above the lizards eye! Photography is all about telling stories and this one is a prime example of that. I never knew mantis could be so small! Wonderful shot.

This image is beautiful, well composed and superbly detailed. The only thing it lacks is a bit more punch as its slightly TOO muted for me. Maybe boost the colours slightly and lift the shadows a touch more? Still, an excellent shot!

I picked this image for my top ten for several reasons. Nice composition, good background, plenty of detail. But wow! Those patterns on the lizards skin! Incredible! A real stand out image for me. Maybe a touch more saturation to really make those colours pop would have helped too, but still, a great photograph!

What a capture! Lizards as with all wildlife can be difficult to photograph as most of the time they do nothing so your shot has to be exceptional to stand out. The very best images tell a story and what a tale has been captured here! A battle to the death between the Gecko and the Horsewhip snake! Added to the story is a clean background meaning the eye is not drawn away by anything distracting. A deserved winner for me and a truly memorable photograph!

Nice to see a different angle on here! Love the environmental style shot giving space around this handsome gecko. It goes to show that sometimes pulling back a bit from the subject can give you a truly different kind of image! Very nice.

Love the muted tones yet bright colours in this image. beautifully photographed and edited and a clever use of the leaves to draw the eye to the subject. The one criticism is the pesky smaller leaf covering the back of the head! If that hadn't been there a potential winner!

Lizards are often quite small and skittish creatures, which can make them difficult to photograph when in the wild. But if you're slow and respond carefully to any movementsย that may signal stress at your presence, you may be rewarded with a newย perspective on these fascinating animals. Make sure you have the right lens and settings in place before approaching your lizard, and good luck.

Not sure what went wrong here. Whether it was taken through glass or the photographer got too close for the lens to focus?? Shutter speed looks fast enough but the image is horribly blurred and out of focus with some nasty chromatic aberration going on too. Dont give up though, have a look through some of the other entrants to pick up valuable tips and inspiration. We all were not as good once!
