I love this pic. At first I thought, ‘What a unique and brilliant idea’ - then I saw several other entries that were very similar. It just goes to show that very little is new in photography. However, I think this particular pic stands out from the other, similar entries. It seems to have bags of drama created by the strong contrast between fore and background. Also, whether by patience, luck or 4 willing friends, it has almost perfect symmetry with St Pauls framed in the middle between two of the people and the other two providing balance at the ends. The shadows from the seated people also nicely lead into the picture and the under exposed surroundings act as a natural frame . The photographer says that this is the B&W version, I’m really glad they submitted this mono version as I feel the lack of colour really enhances the subject – all in all, brilliant.
You either love them or hate them, but used in the right creative circumstance fish-eye lenses produce very attractive and unusual images. The unusual view point from directly underneath the exhibit looks amazing and is a good example of what a fish-eye lens is good at. Perhaps not every bodies cup of tea - but I love it - well done.
