This striking image of a famous and well know waterfall in Iceland caught my attention when judging this contest for many reasons, the first being that previous to seeing this i had come across a large amount of images from this location that in my opinion were all so alike, but with this image i believe it has its own unique look with its stunning reflections and great atmosphere. I would also like to praise the photographer for their black and white conversion.
This image for me is a prime example of black and white long exposure photography. Its pin sharp look from back to front and very good processing skills is only a couple of reasons why this image caught my eye straight away, the other being the composition. Though its a very simple composition i believe it is still very effective! In my personal opinion though i wouldn't of added the cloud into the image as it leads your eye away from main the subject. Having said that i can't really fault much else. Second place, well done!
Although not an extreme long exposure this black and white image really did impress me. The excellent timing and shutter speed to catch the very atmospheric drama in the sky and the stormy sea crashing over the rocks is just brilliant and makes me feel like I'm right there with the photographer. As on many of my reviews in this contest i would like to commend the photographer on their good black and white conversion skills with some nice blended tones.
This is one of my favourite images from the contest, it stood out to me straight away as a real contender. So where do i start – well first off the composition is very solid and well thought out but what makes this image for me is all the amazing drama thats formed in the mountains that the photographer has managed to capture, so not only have they managed to capture all them elements, but have also managed to get a nicely timed shutter speed to smooth out the falling water off the mountain – what a great image.
Although this image has been taken from a very popular location and is of a popular composition, taken here i still feel the photographer has managed to capture something very different and unique which is why this was a stand out image for my top 10. The light hitting the famous arch at Durdle Door adds so much to this already strong image and along with the footsteps leading to the main subject is always going to be a winner in my eyes – good job.
This image was an instant choice for my top 10 and is a perfect example of the brief. Compositionally it is more or less spot on. Something that caught my eye in this image was the great leading lines and how the photographer has timed the tide to perfection –these 2 factors for me only add to what is already a very good image. The black and white conversion also caught my eye where it is clear the photographer has made the most of the conditions.
Such an iconic Slovenian scene! Set in what I’d describe as perfect atmospheric conditions, that further enhance the mood being captured here. Slowing the shutter speed adds to the eeriness of the scene and allows the reflections to build up in the moving water. The conversion from colour to monochrome is tastefully done and the darker tones really make the main subject stand out from the rolling misty atmosphere. A well thought out and perfectly timed image that is more than deserved of my first place, congratulations!
This is again another great example of black and white long exposure photography. This very clean image has so much to offer the viewer, from its striking subject which sits out at sea under some great moving clouds to its lovely pin sharp rocks in the foreground. I'm also a big fan of the composition, it is very strong and commanding so along with all these great elements, including some fine processing by the photographer, this is another great image.

Long-exposure photography, or slow shutter photography involves doing a long shutter speed to sharply capture the stationary elements of images while blurring, smearing, or obscuring the moving elements. In this contest I would like to see your most creative black and white images using the long exposure effect!
