The first thing to catch my eye in this image is that all the flamingos appear to be perfectly in focus. Often, in outdoor photography, we praise shallow depth of field thanks to its ability to reduce unwanted distractions. Here, however, the photographer chose to shoot using F22, blurring nothing, giving every element the same importance within the frame. A very clever choice as, by doing so, they have made the shot infinitely more interesting and unique.
The image seems to be shot at a late time of day, as the water isn't reflecting the typical light blue sky. This works to the photograph's advantage, as it allows the flamingos' colours to brilliantly stand out against the dark waters.
This is a beautiful image that I could stare at all day. A well deserved first place!

**This contest is open to photographers ranked 1000+ in this week’s Leaderboard.** Here’s a tailor-made opportunity to play with concepts of repetition, similarity/variance, order/disorder, patterns and other interesting things that emerge when you’re faced with a whole bunch of the same thing to photograph. Have some fun, interact with the subjects, move them around if that’s possible and explore different compositions. Whatever thing you’re shooting doesn’t have to be identical, but should share some common attribute that makes them essentially ‘the same’.
