Grasshoppers are pretty difficult to get as bugs go, I know I've photographed a few. So unless you can get them completely clutter free it can look very busy and distracting. The eye of the hopper isn't quite sharp and the antenna are cut off too. I'm only pointing these out so if you come across another these are little things which can help improve your image. A ring flash would help to give you more light so you could up the F number. Not sure if you can get ring flashes for this type of camera though. Thank you for entering the contest.

It was a hard decision to make for the top spot on this contest, but I've come back to this image so many times, because the light is outstanding and the detail is incredible. I agree with the photographer that the translucence of this larvae is what really draws your eye into it. Nothing is overexposed and no matter how many times I look, I still find it fascinating to look at. I also think it's totally unique and something Ive not seen before. I find it a breath of fresh air when it comes to this type of contest as it is so brilliantly captured with no harsh editing, if any by the looks of it, and its so well captured you can see the life in it. Congratulations on winning, it really is a fantastic image. Thank you for entering this contest.

Black and white photography can offer one of the very best tones to highlight detail, so in this macro contest we can expect an extraordinary focus on the minutiae; one that takes your macro shots to a whole new level of abstraction. Pay particular attention to composition and patterns...

I really like this image. Not something I'd nessecerally expect to see in this contest but I also like to see something different that catches my eye and makes me go back for a second and third look. You really need to just stop and look at the detail that's actually there. I find the bubbles on the prongs really draws my attention and if an image does this then it's all good in my book. Another abstract type image I could easily have on my wall Thank you for entering the contest.

This was a fairly late entry to the contest and and it threw me off track a bit as I thought I had my top ten images. I went straight to the write up on what it was and because I was so fascinated by it I googled Ferro liquid to see exactly what it was. The image is very striking and has fantastic contrast to it. It's the sort of abstract image I would have on my wall. This was a case of "You learn something new everyday" A brilliant image, again something that I've not seen photographed up close before so a first for me and it is skillfully photographed. Thank you for entering the contest.
