This most elemental of materials is one that driven and defined the evolution of our species. Until we learnt how to work bronze, which was as recently as 3000 BC, it was the use of stone tools that marked the Stone Age, lasting for over 3 million years. A stone is defined as a small piece of rock, and we still use them in many walks of life, including construction, ornamentation, and commemoration. This contest is interested only in stone as used by man, not in its un-excavated form in nature. And stone being used in its original state, not as an ingredient in products such as cement, concrete, or glass. Within those broad limitations any of its fascinating uses can be represented, both historical and current.

How it works

Every photo submitted will be available for the crowd to rate once the submissions period has ended. You can see all the images uploaded to a contest, but will need to rate them to see how they’re ranked once the rating period begins.

Some contests on Photocrowd also have a judge. After the submission period closes the judge chooses their favourite images and writes some image reviews. The crowd and judge results will be announced on the same day.
