This image is bang on! It’s a striking and dynamic portrait of this rather splendid Eurasian Black vulture. The photographer has captured a wonderful subtlety to the tonality, especially in the plumage. It would be very easy to ‘overcook’ an image like this and boost the contrast too much however restraint has paid off.
What a wonderfully dynamic image and concept. The shapes, line and tones really draw the viewer’s eye into the image with a sense of energy and power. There are some great pre-visualisation techniques on show that clearly demonstrate the photographer had an understanding of how the final image would look when captured in camera. The subtle tonality has been well handled.
The weight, balance and structure of the composition is spot on. The water luminance, subtle tones, symmetry and arrangement of the reflections are all working in harmony to create a powerful and striking image. The shadow detail has been handled well revealing the skills of the photographer’s processing technique.
