In abstract photography, colours become less about giving information (such as the context of the photo, or the environment) and feature more as a 2D element to be enjoyed. Abstracts are separated from meaning, with no immediate association to the outside world. Their purpose, then, is different, and photographers are free to get far more creative – approaching their subjects more like an artist than a straightforward documenter of reality.
