This caught my attention the second I was it - both because it's a great picture and because I know the band (Amon Amarth) and have shot at their shows several times and recognized the singer Johan Hegg at once. You have managed to catch a great moment and you have eye contact with him as he points his finger directly at you. It is also a great picture from a technical point of view: Focus is spot on, exposure is perfect and the blue background fits perfectly to his outfit. Congratulations on first place in this contest.

What a great picture! The combination of a long shutter time and second curtain flash is just spot on - and that is not an easy task. I feel his concentration and can almost hear the music here. Your black and white work is perfect with a great tonal range - and black and whit was definately the right choice for this. One minor thing: I would have cloned out the small grey area in the bottom right corner - it's a distraction to me.

The best photographs of musicians take their lead from the artist themselves. It's always a good idea to avoid those cringey or forced shots that seem totally inauthentic. Musicians are generally very passionate and expressive people who come to life around their instruments or in a musical setting. Use this to your advantage to create stunning musician shots that communicate passion and genuine feeling.
You have chosen an unusual but very powerful composition in your picture - and it works very well with the right amount of negative space in the left side of the image. Maybe you have cut out your subject from the background? I really can't tell and I don't care either (but if you have, you have done a good job doing it) - or maybe it's a staged studio shot? Agsin, I don't care - you have created a very good and very unusual picture.
A picture with a lot of potential: The background is great, the staging is perfect (I assume the picture is staged). I like his outfit and that he is sitting on the old radio. The wide angel perspective suits the scene very well and the black and white work is very nice. But I just don't get the the idea with the selective color - it simply ruins the picture for me. I really wish that orange flame florating in mid air wasn't there.
