New Joiners - Animals #484

February 2021

I love the simplistic nature of this image, with great framing and a clear subject. Chromatic aberration can be prominent in images like this, so I'd recommend using a tool to remove it when possible and I would consider a slight crop to remove the leaves peeping in on the top right, but otherwise a well executed image!

Gorgeous colour, great use of the rule of thirds and a technically proficient image. Post-processing is always a personal preference and my only feedback would be to use a chromatic aberration tool to remove it from the edges of the trees and the Deer.

A great action shot of a stunning bird. It can be difficult to capture a balanced exposure on subjects which have both light and dark bits, especially in harsh sunlight where blown highlights can be a nightmare, but this image has nailed it along with perfect focus and framing.

Gorgeous colour and pin sharp focus on the eye really works here. I love how the Croc almost blends into the surroundings. It's impossible to say if a different composition would have been possible, but I would potentially try positioning the Croc a little further to the right so he looks into the frame a bit more, but other than that, a great image!

I love the low key effect of this image, with the Lionfish popping out from the darkness. It's incredibly difficult to capture sharp images of subjects like this through glass, so it's been well achieved. It might be worth increasing the exposure on the fish ever so slightly to make it pop even more!

White or bright subjects can be notoriously difficult when it comes to exposure, especially when it coincides with bright sunlight! Usually you have to opt for either low or high key images and with the presence of ice and bright reflections, you chose correctly! Lovely reflection and composition.

I love the monochrome effect and crop on this image, but pesky pets never seem to stay still and a dark coated dog is even more tricky to expose correctly. I would have tried to increase the shutter speed just slightly, even if it means having to put the ISO up higher as this can actually work in your favour on B&W images.

Gorgeous lighting and a great composition. Square crops can be very 'marmite' in the photography world with some people loving them whilst others may loathe them, but this crop works very well and I love the expression on his face to top it all off.

Grey Squirrels are a heavily overlooked species when it comes to wildlife photography so it's always wonderful to see them in the spotlight! I love his expression and the leaves help to frame the shot. I would consider increasing the exposure slightly and it could be argued that the leaf in front of him is a distraction, but there's nothing that can be done in the heat of the moment as we can't simply ask them to move! Lovely shot.

Gorgeous colours and a beautiful, well framed subject. Whilst post processing is very much down to your personal preference, to improve this image even further I would have tried to increase the exposure on the subject a little bit more, but otherwise a lovely image!

A great image, with use of the rule of thirds, a dramatic sky and a well balanced exposure. It would have been easy to accidentally cut the tail off the larger dog too so it's great to see this was avoided. I'd try to straighten the horizon ever so slightly to make this image even better!

I love how you've used iconic buildings and landmarks to frame this image, with the inclusion of a species that many people would overlook when it comes to photography. To make it even better, keeping in mind I wasn't there to see if it was logistically possible, I would have moved a little further to the left to position this 'perch' and bird bang smack in the middle of the two.

I love the colour in this image and the shallow depth of field, with the focus perfectly on the eye works really well. The crop is great and although the eye doesn't necessarily follow the 'rule of thirds', the crop wouldn't necessarily have worked if it did, plus it's always important to remember that it's a guideline not a rule! I love the shallow depth of field and focus on the nose in this image. If it's a crop, I think it would work even better if the chin and left ear of the dog was included in the shot, assuming it doesn't bring any distractions into the image!
