New Joiners - Animals #488

March 2021

Well focused and exposed with a great inclusion of the habitat and surroundings. I would consider cropping in slightly from the right to crop some fencing out but also get the Bison to look into the frame rather than be centralised, but otherwise a lovely shot!

I absolutely love the colour and light on this image, with the light catching the eyes perfectly and fantastic symmetry. It's pin sharp, the depth is perfect and the composition is spot on. An awesome image to be proud of!

You've really nailed the focus in this image and it's clear that every possible step was taken to minimise the fencing (even with the shallowest depth of field, it will always leave telltale signs, the best we can do is minimise it). The composition, exposure and angle is spot on too, great image!

Great vibrance, the focus is spot on, paired with a stunning subject makes this image. I would consider cropping in slightly from the left to get the Peacock to look into the frame more but otherwise it's a great, well composed image

Meet the expert judge

Great exposure and an irresistible subject! Wherever possible I'd recommend trying to focus on the eye as in this image, the focus is ever so slightly forward, but regardless, it works well and is very aesthetically pleasing with the 'aww' factor.

Whilst it's impossible to say whether this image was intentionally blurred or not, for me it works quite well, especially in monochrome. A motion blurred image such as this is often to convey a sense of speed and movement and this is achieved well, especially with the subject running out of the frame.

I love the depth and colours on this image, with the focus perfectly fixed on the eyes and a smooth, bokeh background. I would consider cropping in slightly from the left and right to cut out a bit of the body and empty space, which would make the image even better!

It can be difficult to focus on birds in flight in front of a messy background, but it's been well achieved here. Paired with good exposure, avoiding blown highlights which can be challenging with a white bird in the sun, it's spot on! Try in future to get the bird to fly into the frame rather than out, but that's easier said than done when in the field!

I love the depth and symmetry to this image with the cat in the background. The focus is spot on and the exposure is perfect. To improve the image even further I would consider a square crop as I feel it would really work with this image!

I really like the simplicity of this image and the fact that it includes a subject that many people overlook when it comes to photography. Snails can be hard to focus on so it's always worth using a wider depth of field to get both the shell, body and eyes in focus.

Shooting through fencing can be really tricky, but the focus here is spot on with gorgeous colours and a bit of personality shining from the Deer. Try to shoot with a super shallow depth of field wherever possible and get as close to the fence as you can to minimise the fence showing up in your images.

Great use of the rule of thirds here with the Heron looking into the frame, drawing the viewers eye in. the focus is spot on and the shallow depth of field helps to isolate him from his background. I would consider increasing the exposure ever so slightly, but otherwise a great image!

I really like this image, with gorgeous colours and tones and an otherwise overlooked species taking centre stage. The composition, focus, horizon and exposure is well executed and the post processing hasn't been overdone at all, looking natural and aesthetically pleasing.

This image works really well in monochrome and the contrast is fantastic. I like the composition and the expression on the kitten really helps to make this image eye catching. I would have tried to include the toes of the left paw here to improve the image further, but otherwise a lovely shot.

I love how abstract this image is, with no distracting elements which risk drawing the viewers eye away. The focus and exposure is perfect with no blown highlights Whilst I think this image works really well in colour, don't be afraid to experiment with monochrome as well as I think it would look fantastic too!
