New Joiners - Animals #500

May 2021

The sheer joy of the elephants has been captured fantastically in this image. The exposure, colour palette and atmosphere is spot on and the shutter speed was well chosen to ensure the action was frozen. I'd consider cropping in slightly from the left to remove some of the empty space, but that's a personal preference!

The sheer cheekiness and personality beaming from the horse really makes this image. I love that you've chosen a narrow depth of field and gone against the norm of focusing on the eyes and the exposure and focus is spot on. A great, unconventional image!

The colour palette of this image is gorgeous and the exposure and focus is well achieved. Whilst it's not a set in stone rule in photography, getting the subject to look into the frame will help draw the viewers eye in so consider this in future images.

The perspective and composition of this image is fantastic and whilst the colour palette is muted, it works really well with the cold/wintery feel of the image. I really like how the shallow depth of field, paired with the pin sharp focus draws your eye into the main pony. A great image!

The colour palette, exposure and focus are spot on in this image and the rush in the foreground doesn't distract from the main subject. When working with living subjects, try to shoot as close to eye level as possible as it can help remove any distracting details in the background and help isolate your subject more.

What an awesome encounter this must have been, especially with how shy Eland can be when out on safari. I love the colour palette, light and composition of this image and the hitchhiking oxpeckers are an added bonus to a lovely overall image!

It can be difficult to capture the personality and charisma of some animals or subjects, but you've done a fantastic job here. The exposure, colour and feel of the image works really well. Don't be afraid to use a wider depth of field to ensure you get both the eyes and nose of the subject in focus on future attempts or try to focus on the eyes.

What a beautiful image! The colour palette, depth, pin sharp focus and aesthetically pleasing composition all come together perfectly here. The dew drops on the butterfly just adds an extra element and you've combatted the shallow depth of field you often encounter in macro photography incredibly well too.

You can almost feel the crisp, cold atmosphere from this image, which has been well captured with a great composition, exposure and wintery colour palette. With the deer looking into the frame it really draws your eyes in and keeps them fixed on the image.

You captured an awesome action moment with this swan taking off. The horizon is perfectly straight and the shutter speed was fast enough to freeze most of the action. When photographing white subjects in bright light don't be afraid to underexpose slightly as this can help to avoid blown highlights.

The focus on this image is so sharp and crisp it feels as if the bird is literally in front of you rather than on the computer screen. You've captured an awesome action moment and the heron really pops from the dark background.

It's always refreshing to see wildlife photography that doesn't utilise a long lens, showing the animal in context of their surroundings. I really like the pose this penguin is in and the exposure and colours are great! I'd consider cropping in ever so slightly from the right to fully centralise his head, but that's a personal preference on my end.

It really shows that these camels have personality and charisma in this image. I love their quirky poses and the exposure, focus and colour palette are great! Try wherever possible to not crop out the extremities of your subjects and give them a little room to breathe on the edges.

Images that utilise the perspective of subjects can be really engaging and draw the viewers eye in: this is a great example of that. The exposure is well done and the colour palette is subtle but nice. I'd consider straightening the horizon to make this image even better!

The pure enjoyment, joy and enthusiasm from this gorgeous pooch is truly infectious: you can't help but smile when looking at this image! The exposure and focus is well done and whilst the background could be deemed slightly distracting, you can't avoid that gorgeous face! I'd consider removing toys and objects in the background in the future if you're looking to photograph this beautiful dog to help isolate her more.
