New Joiners - Animals #504

May 2021

It's fair to say you were successful in your goal of capturing the personality of this dog. The light is sublime and warm with perfect focus and a good depth of field. I would consider cropping in ever so slightly from the left but this is a personal preference.

The light and reflection in the eye is lovely and really draws your attention in. The focus is spot on, with the shallow depth of field reducing any distractions from the foliage in the background. I'd consider cropping in from the right to remove the other Lemur to make this image even better!

This image has a lovely, wintery feel and colour palette, with good focus and depth of field and an aesthetically pleasing composition. When photographing waterfowl, whilst not always possible, a lower angle will give you a clean background and really draw your eye in.

The exposure, composition and focus is perfect here, and I really love the pose and confidence that this Meerkat exudes. In that regard you've captured the personality and charisma really well which can be one of the main challenges of animal photography.

This image has a really magical feel, with the trees and flowers acting as a gorgeous, natural frame which draws your eyes in. Whilst it's impossible to know whether or not it would have worked here, try and get your subject to look into the frame whenever possible rather than centralising.

You captured a great moment here, with both Monkeys calling in unity. The composition is great with them both individuals looking into the frame and drawing your eye in, paired with a great colour palette and exposure. The only distraction is the wire in the upper left corner and whilst it's not possible to crop out here, sometimes changing the angle you shoot from can fix this.

This image works really well in black and white and has a narrative without words, which can be challenging to capture in a single image. The focus, exposure and depth of field is spot on and the only feedback I can give is, on future attempts, to try and include the entire animal wherever possible in regards to the Buffalo on the right.

I love the feel of this image, with the comical expression on the Daschunds face really drawing your eyes in. The colour palette is aesthetically pleasing and the depth of field, composition and exposure is spot on. A great overall image!

The crisp focus and detail on this ant is fantastic and works incredibly well with a dark backdrop. The composition is really aesthetically pleasing and draws your attention in, which is helped even further with the low perspective. An incredible image!

The vibrant red colour really pops on this gorgeous crane, which you've captured wonderfully with great exposure, focus and a lovely colour palette. The depth of field ensures the entire bird is in focus without introducing distracting elements in the background.

You captured an incredibly comical moment here, with personality bursting from the dog and nothing accidentally cropped out which can happen occasionally when manic moments like this occur. The focus, colour palette and exposure are all well achieved and aesthetically pleasing: a great capture!

You've captured an incredible, tender moment here, with the focus, exposure, colour palette and depth of field all spot on. The centralised subject works well with the asymmetry of the subjects and the branch they're perched on, paired with the tree to the left acts as a natural frame. A lovely image!

You've really captured the detail here, with the red on the eye really popping from the image and drawing your attention in. Despite looking like a bright day, you've avoided harsh contrast or blown highlights. Whilst you did shoot at f/7.1, I'd consider having an even wider depth of field when working with small subjects like this to ensure the entire animal is in focus.

I really love the framing and composition of this image, which highlights a commonly overlooked species. The colour, exposure and focus is spot on the depth of field really helps to isolate her from her surroundings. I'd consider cropping in from the left to remove the branch in the bottom left corner and make her look into the frame more, but otherwise it's a cracking image!
