New Joiners - Animals #510

June 2021

Gulls are often such an overlooked or maligned species but it's clear that you see their beauty and was able to capture it well! The perspective is great and despite it being a bright day there's no blown highlights or loss of detail.

I love the crisp detail here, with the focus spot on and a great depth of field ensuring that the background is not too distracting. The exposure and colour palette are great but to make the image even better, try to avoid centralising your subject and instead try to utilise the rule of thirds wherever possible.

I absolutely love the expression on this marmot and the colour palette, composition and perspective are fantastic. You've utilised the rule of thirds really well and the low angle, paired with a shallow depth of field, really makes the subject pop!

I love how you've captured a comical action pose here, with the exposure and composition absolutely spot on. The low angle works really well and whilst the shutter speed was a little slow, it's not significantly impacted the image by adding too much blur.

I love how unique this image is, with an obscure subject. The focus is spot on and the urban, night colour palette works really well for the overall atmosphere of the image. In future, try to adhere to the rule of thirds when possible to get your subject to look into the frame.

I'm sure you don't regret following your brother-in-laws advice to visit this site! What a cracking encounter and it's great that you were able to capture both the adult and young in the same exposure with good light on both individuals.

I really like this image, with the foliage in the foreground almost acting like a frame for the goat. The exposure, composition, depth of field and colour palette are spot on but to make the image even better, I'd consider cropping in slightly from the lower left corner to remove the white item in the corner.

Gulls are often a heavily overlooked species when it comes to photography, but they don't deserve this oversight as you've shown here. I love the depth to the image which really draws your eye in, but try to adhere to the rule of thirds whenever possible to get the gull to look into the frame rather than centralising.

I really love the colour of this image, with the stable walls acting like a natural frame around the horse and drawing your eye in. The composition, exposure and depth of field are spot on, but I'd consider removing the chromatic aberration in post-processing.

The rule of thirds often recommends that you get your subject to look into the frame, but this is nothing more than a guideline that can be comfortably broken as you've demonstrated here. I love the atmosphere of this image and to make it even better, I'd consider increasing the contrast and vibrance ever so slightly!

What an awesome encounter! I love the low angle and perspective which draws your eye in and really isolates the porcupine, which is helped further with the shallow depth of field. The colour palette and exposure are great and you've used the rule of thirds really well.

I love the warm, muted tones and colour palette on this image. You've composed it well with the chipmunk looking into the frame which can draw the viewers eye in, and the shallow depth of field really isolates him from the background.

This image has a quintessential cold winters day feel. Whilst it may be quite grainy and noisy, I feel this only adds to the atmosphere. I love how these sheep line up in this image and the perspective and depth of field are spot on.
