New Joiners - Animals #520

July 2021

I absolutely adore the colour palette and light in this image with the gorgeous golden hues. You've captured a tender moment and the depth of field and focus are spot on. The composition works really well given the asymmetry of the two donkeys.

The crisp, tack sharp focus on this image really draws your eye in and whilst it doesn't 'technically' follow the rule of thirds with the subject looking out of the frame, it still works well here. I'd consider using noise reduction software such as Topaz to clean up the background slightly if you want to reproduce this image on a larger scale.

I love how the foliage in the foreground and background acts as a natural frame and draws your eye into these photogenic zebras. It can be hard to judge what composition will be best when you have more than one subject looking in different directions but you really nailed it here.

I love the vibrant colour and catch-lighting in the eyes of this baboon as it really draws your attention in. It works well with the rule of thirds and the focus is crisp. Be cautious when post processing to not introduce any artefacts to your images.

I really adore this image! I think it works really well in black and white and the crisp focus is fantastic, highlighting every little detail on this penguin. Whilst he does look out of the frame it does still work compositionally.

I have always been a sucker for slow shutter speed motion images and whilst I know they can be very 'marmite', if you enjoy them then you should stick to it! I love the vibrant colour and discernible details you can pick out despite the slow shutter speed.

I adore the unique perspective and cool sepia colour scheme of this image. The focus is spot on and the lighting works really well to highlight each unique groove and detail on the fish. The composition is great and acts as a leading line.

The colour palette on this image is gorgeous and warm which really works, especially given the coat colour of Ozzy. The depth of field works to bring your attention to the crisp detail on his face and there are no distracting elements in the image.

The composition of this image is absolutely spot on with the branch and his body acting as a leading line which draws you right into the image. The colour and light is gorgeous and the focus is so crisp with a lovely creamy background due to the depth of field.

The branches and foliage on this tree works so well as a natural frame which helps draw your eye into the main subject. The colour palette is warm with pastel shades which is really aesthetically pleasing and adds to the feel of the image. I'd consider cropping in slightly from the top left to get the subject to look into the frame more.

I absolutely love the perspective on this image as it's not one you'd often expect. 'Shoot eye level' is something that's often recommended in wildlife photography, but you've shown here why it can be a good idea to go against the groove and try something new.

The warm, crisp colour palette on this image is truly divine and I love how well the heron contrasts against the surroundings. You've used the rule of thirds perfectly to draw peoples eyes into the image and keep them engaged.

It can be extremely challenging to capture engaging and thought provoking images of animals in captivity but you've absolutely nailed it here. The colour palette is warm and aesthetically pleasing but I'd consider softening the vignette in the top of the image if one was applied in PP.

It can be quite a challenge to capture insects in flight but there's definitely a unique allure to dragonflies. You've captured an incredible image which can still boast the minute details on the subjects face and body whilst showing motion in the wings.
