You've got great separation of the puffin against the background and I love how well the composition works here. You've avoided blowing highlights on the face and breast which can be a challenge with Puffins and the focus is spot on. A great image!

What a cracking image! I love how crisp and sharp the focus is despite the high speed action and the colour on the feet and beak really pops. Topaz is a cracking programme for noise reduction and sharpening but be cautious with pushing it too far as it can sometimes add artefacts to your image.

Meet the expert judge

I love the separation of the subject against the background and despite being a bright day you were able to control the highlights well. I think this image could work well as a square crop to get the subject to look into the frame.

This is a great images and goes to show you don't need expensive camera equipment to capture awesome images! Whilst your controls are more limited on a phone I'd consider delving into the deeper settings as a wider depth of field (higher f number) would have been beneficial here to get the shell in focus too.

The light on this image is divine and I love the super low angle which helps to isolate them from their surroundings. I would have liked to see a slightly higher res image but appreciate not everyone is comfortable uploading these to the internet.

I love the composition and muted light in this image. The focus is good but I'd consider increasing your depth of field (higher f/ number) to ensure both eyes are in focus on future images with a similar subject or depth.

I love the vibrant colour palette on this image and the depth of field is good to include the majority of the web and spider. Whilst it doesn't necessarily follow the rule of thirds, the crop needed to achieve this would ruin the image so it's well chosen.

This image clearly involved some technical challenges with the subject in the shade and a bright backdrop. In these instances it's best to expose for your subject which you've done here. The depth of field is good and ensures the entire subject is in focus.

I absolutely adore the piercing stare from this owl which is helped further by the catchlight. The dark background really helps to make him pop and every fine detail is evident in his plumage due to good focus. I'd consider cropping in slightly from the left to centralise him more.

The light on this image is great and whilst some detail is lost in the highlights, it's not overly detrimental. The focus and depth of field is good and the crisp focus on the eyes really draws you in and keeps you interested.

The light on this image is truly divine with gorgeous golden hues and tones. The focus is crisp and the depth of field is well chosen to ensure the background doesn't introduce any distracting elements. Try to give space for the subject to look into when possible.

I love the crisp focus on this image and the exposure is spot on with no blown highlights or details lost. With waterfowl it can be difficult to include the entire subject and still give them space to look into but try to resist the temptation to overly fill the frame when possible.

I love how this goose stands out so much from his surroundings and you've done exactly what I would which is look for the unique individual. The fact that the subjects NEVER stay still is definitely a challenge but wherever possible, try to get your subject to look into the frame to draw peoples eyes in.

I love the low angle on this image and there's great separation between the subject and the background. I'd consider increasing the exposure on this image so that we can appreciate the finer details without having to increase the screen brightness too much.
