New Joiners - Animals #534

September 2021

What a stunning visitor! I love how well the red colours in his coat pops from the image and the focus is crisp and sharp on the eyes. The composition is good and the depth of field ensures that the full subject is in focus.

The soft, warm tones of this image are incredibly aesthetically pleasing and the leopard is in a really gorgeous pose. I would consider cropping in slightly from the left as I feel the branches of the tree work really well as a natural frame and would make the image even better!

You've captured the intricate texture and detail in this rhinos skin really well and I love the high contrast paired with the black and white. I'd consider cropping in slightly from the left to get the eye to look into the frame more as I think this would improve the image even further!

Meet the expert judge

I love the crisp focus on this image and the striking eye contact from this gorgeous lioness. The depth of field is good and works well to draw your eye in. I'd consider making the colour palette a bit more natural but this is a personal preference!

I love how well the personality of this donkey shines through in this image. It works incredibly well with the short focal length and perspective. It goes to show that you don't need an expensive camera to capture awesome images.

I love the colour and light on this image and, whilst there's a tiny bit of highlight clipping, it doesn't in any way distract away from the subject or ruin the image. The soft bokeh in the background works really well to isolate the kitten and draw your eye in.

Whilst this image might not be what you'd expect, I think it works incredibly well! I love the unconventional surroundings and the colour palette is really aesthetically pleasing. The composition is spot on and I don't think this image would have worked with a lower shooting angle.

This subject is really well isolated from his surroundings and the composition follows the rule of thirds well, drawing your eye into the image and keeping you fixated. The red colour on his back really pops, along with the gorgeous yellow eye.

You've captured this wonderful family moment really well, and I love how the central cub seems so fixated on you, looking directly down the barrel of the lens. The colour palette is aesthetically pleasing and the focus and depth of field are spot on.

Pigeons are so heavily overlooked when it comes to photography, but very few people recognise how incredible they are with over 350 different species. I love the perspective of this image and the pink really pops, drawing your eyes in.

I love how the foreground foliage acts as a natural frame in this image and the spot lighting really helps to draw your eye into the subject. Remember when photographing wildlife to try and include the entire animal by not cropping off certain features like the feet to make the image even better!

What a stunning moth! I love how you've captured the intricate details of the antennae which really are a defining feature of the image, along with the golden tones of the wings really popping from the image. I like this crop and frankly, you could comfortable move it or change it if wanted in the future as there's a lot of potential here.

I like the shallow depth of field in this image which really works to draw your eye into the main subject. The green in the eyes really draws you in and the composition works well with the subject centralised but still moving 'into' the image.

Capturing the essence or personality of your subject can be one of the most challenging yet important aspects of wildlife photography: it's fair to say you completely nailed it here! The composition is awesome and I love the spelled colours throughout his plumage.
