New Joiners - Animals #538

October 2021

What an awesome capture with some great action! The shutter speed, depth of field, exposure and focus are absolutely spot on and the colour palette is aesthetically pleasing and natural. I'd consider applying a slight, subtle vignette to the image to draw peoples eye in even more.

The composition on this image is spot on, with the subject looking into the image and empty space to draw you in. The focus and depth looks good but I’d consider adjusting the white balance slightly to cool down some of the colours.

The branches around this gorgeous Wood Pigeon really frames the image well and draws you in, helped further with the composition with the subject looking into the frame. The exposure is good and I like the subtle colour palette with the colour on the bill standing out.

I love the contrast between this handsome subject and the dull surroundings as it really pops and draws you into the image. Whilst it's often not advised to centralise the subject it works well here with the direct eye contact.

I like how the foliage and branches frame this Grey squirrel and the colours are aesthetically pleasing. I’d consider cropping in slightly from the left to make the subject look into the frame more and increase the exposure ever so slightly on the squirrel to make the image pop even more.

I love the quirky angle on this image and the fact that you've not lost the details on the subject. I'd advise using the heal or clone tool to remove some of the dust spots on the background and getting it cleaned to avoid this issue in the future.

I love the tender moment you've captured here and the light and colour palette is divine with good focus and depth. I'd consider increasing the exposure slightly to ensure no details are lost and we can fully appreciate this beautiful image!

I love the crisp focus on this image and the eye contact with one of the kittens. I would have shot with a wider depth of field to try and include both kittens as the background doesn’t have any distracting elements to introduce to the image.

The colours in the foreground are really aesthetically pleasing and add an additional element to this image. The focus is good and whilst it doesn’t strictly follow the rule of thirds by having your subject look into the frame, you would lose the foreground flowers by doing this.

I love how well the subject stands out from his surroundings due to the dust fading the background away. The colour palette works really well and the composition is spot on, with great framing from the foreground and background drawing you in.

I love the comical and goofy feel to this image, with an often intimidating and majestic lion showing his playful side. The focus and depth of field looks good but I would consider increasing the exposure ever so slightly on the foreground to make the image reach its full potential.

I absolutely adore the light and colour on this image, paired with the laid back yet confident pose of the lion. The focus and depth of field is good but I’d consider cropping slightly from the left to get him to look into the frame more.

I love the action in this image and the shape of the wings and body. It works well in black and white and the depth of field and focus are good. I’d consider increasing the contrast more to make the image pop even more!

I love how you've used a shallow depth of field here to isolate him from the penguins in the background. The colour really pops, especially with the dull foreground. I'd consider cropping in slightly from the left to make him look into the frame more.

The composition is fabulous in this image, with both the eyeline and angle of the rock drawing your eye into the image. It’s works well in black and white, especially with the high contrast. When framing your image, try to ensure you don’t crop out any outer elements of the subject unless it’s absolutely intentional.
