This is not a 'typical' composition, and frankly I love it! The desaturated colour palette of everything but the eyes really draws you in and I love how crisp and sharp the focus is, with a well chosen depth of field.

What a great action shot! I love how you can see the blood vessels through the backlit webbing on the feet & it's even better since you captured this Puffin with a mouthful of sandeels! The focus is good and the shallow depth of field ensures the background isn't distracting.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Animals’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Landscapes’.

I love the expression you've captured on this image and the out of focus body almost acts as a leading like to draw you into those pin sharp whiskers and aesthetic features. The exposure is spot on and the colour palette is natural and aesthetically pleasing.

What a perfectly timed capture! The depth of field is spot on to ensure both butterflies are in focus without adding distracting elements from the background and you've done well with the exposure, avoiding any blown highlights in harsh light.

The composition is great in this image, with a straight horizon and the subject looking into the frame. The rocky edge silhouette could even be considered to be a leading line to draw you into the main bird protruding from the horizon.

The shallow depth of field has been implemented so well here to draw you into those pin sharp eyes with no potential for distraction from the surrounding fur or background. I love the natural, warm and aesthetically pleasing colour palette.

This image goes to show that phones are capable of taking amazing images! I love how the light on the cat makes it pop so well from the surroundings despite the lack of heavy contrast in both colour or shadows.

You captured this image at the perfect moment with the mouth open and I like the framing. The colour palette is natural and aesthetically pleasing and the shallow depth of field ensures there's no distracting elements in the background to draw you away.

I like how the foliage in the background paired with the log frames this image and draws you into the main subject. Whilst the background is quite bright you've ensured that the exposure on your subject is spot on with no lost features.

The colour palette on this image is divine and I love how well the foreground and background blurs away with the shallow depth of field, drawing you into those crisp and pin sharp eyes. Personally I would consider cropping in ever so slightly from the left but this is a personal preference.

You've used the fencing here as a perfect leading line to draw you into this herd of handsome stags! I love the colour palette as it appears to have been shot in blue light conditions with great, muted pastel tones.

The coral around this gorgeous turtle works really well as a natural frame and helps to draw you into the subject. You captured a great pose with the flippers and they almost act as a natural frame to draw you into the face.

The expressions we often associate with people aren't comparable with most animals, but this image makes the lemur look like they're completely lost in thought or daydreaming. The exposure is spot on with an aesthetically pleasing colour palette and striking eyes.

Wildlife photography can be all about timing and you chose your moment well here to capture that cheeky tongue sticking out! The foliage works really well as a natural frame with the contrast in colour and brightness and I love how you can still see details in the eye!

What an awesome capture! The expression and pose of the dog is comedic, aesthetically pleasing and really shows just how much enjoyment they're having! The water acts as a leading line drawing you straight into your main subject and the exposure is spot on!
