New Joiners - Animals #623

January 2023

Pigeons are heavily overlooked when it comes to wildlife and animal photography, but these birds are bursting at the seams with personality and you've captured that so well here. The shallow dept of field helps to draw us into the subject and keep us fixated on the great posture and expression.

The branches surrounding this squirrel works really well as a natural frame, drawing you into the image and also allowing him to have a great, photogenic pose. I like the warm hues and colour scheme and the sprinkles on the nose are a lovely additional feature.

I like how the foreground feathers frame this peacocks face and the lack of vibrant colour really makes you observe and appreciate the finer details on the image. Try not to completely centralise your subject in the frame to make the composition more aesthetically pleasing.

The separation from the subject against the background is fantastic, removing any potential distractions and making the bird pop from the image. The branch acts as a leading line to draw you in and also works to partially frame it.

The eye contact is fabulous on this image and I really like the warm colour palette from the seaweed. The square crop works really well and whilst it's often advised to not centralise your subject, the eye contact makes it work.

You chose well to convert this to black and white as it really enhances the contrast and detail. The body shape of the cheetah is really aesthetically pleasing and I love that you've captured the reflection too.. In situations like this we don't often have time to think too much but should the situation occur again, try and consider including the entire reflection.

The pose on this puffin is aesthetically pleasing and the depth of field and focus is good. Try to resist centralising your subject when possible but rather get them to look into the frame. With this in mind, I'd consider cropping in slightly from the right.

The desaturated colour on this image works well to give it a more 'vintage' feel and I love how well those beautiful, amber eyes pop from the image. The subject being centralised works well due to that near perfect symmetry on the face.

What a fantastic image! I love the branch running through the middle of the image and how relaxed this beautiful leopard is. It's a personal preference but I'd consider cropping in from the right to the end of the broken branch.

The shallow depth of field on this image really draws you into the face on this image, with great fine detail on the mud and ears. The composition works well despite the subject being centralised and I like the colour palette.

I love the intricate detail on the whiskers, nose and mouth on this image. The black and white works well to enhance the contrast and detail. I would consider cropping in slightly from the left as the bright leg draws your eye away.

I like the desaturated colour palette on this image and the eyes really pop. Whilst I like this crop, I also think a square crop could work really well with the face centralised due to the great symmetry and clean background.

You've exposed this image fabulously and the black background works so well to keep our attention on the main subject. The detail on the fur and nose is pin sharp and whilst the composition is good, I'd crop the back paw out that's peeping in from the right.

Those amber eyes pop and glow so well in this image and I love the shine from the sun. The expression is great and the shallow depth of field really helps to draw you into the main subject and keep you fixated on the detail.
