New Joiners - Animals #671

August 2023

I love the desaturated feel of this image and you've captured the breach perfectly as the first breath is exhaled! The water shows some slight motion blur but I feel like this adds to the image against a calm sea.

I love how the surrounding foliage frames this heron perfectly and you've included the full reflection too which is something many people forget. I'd consider cooling the image down slightly with the white balance but only by a couple of hundred.

You can see the intricate details in the wings perfectly here and I love how the oranges and yellows contrast against the pink and green. The image is framed well and the shallow depth of field really draws you into the subject.

It can be hard not to imagine what is going through our subjects mind as we photograph them, and this handsome individual looks deep in thought. The shallow depth of field isolates him perfectly against the background and I like the contrast of colour. I'd consider increasing the exposure slightly.

You can see every intricate detail on the fur and horns here and I love the detail you've also captured in the eye. Be cautious when composing your image as it's usually best practice to leave a bit more space between the end of the subject and the edge of the frame.

Golden light is highly sought after by photographers for a good reason: the colour palette here is fantastic and warm and I love how you have so much detail across the entire face whilst still having good separation from the background.

I love the composition on this image, but these conditions are incredibly difficult to photograph in! You have so much contrast between the dark and the brighter sections that it's near impossible to balance it properly. You did the right thing by exposing for the face but always be cautious about overly blowing highlights.

I love this image! The hands perfectly frame the subject and it gives you a narrative without needing a caption. The shallow depth of field draws you in and the yellow on the eye really pops despite being similar in colour to the sand.

I like the contrast you've captured in the colours here against the petals and the cat and the pose and positioning is unusual whilst still being aesthetically pleasing. If you get the opportunity to do this one again, I'd consider a shallower depth of field to draw you into the eyes even more.

This image is teeming with narrative and I love the contrast of nature and wildlife paired with humanity. The colours in the sky are beautiful and the silhouette, paired with the lines of the wires, really draws you into the image and keeps you engaged.

I love how the wooden posts frame these two handsome cows and you get great context of the surrounding areas, giving you image more narrative. It just goes to show that you don't need expensive equipment to capture great images!

I like the light in this image, whilst it is still challenging with side lighting it leaks through the wings really well and also highlights the crashing waves really well. The birds are flying out of the frame which is usually ill advised but still works here!

I love the low perspective on this image and you have fantastic atmosphere in the background with the low clouds and sharp hills. A terrible nit pick from me, but I'd have loved to see the reflection unhindered by the rocks but I know this is easier said than done!
