New Joiners - Animals #705

January 2024

I really like the simplicity of this image and how you've captured the corvid with the bill open to enhance the shape further. I'd consider cropping in slightly from the left just to get the bird to look into the frame a bit more.

I like the wide angle and perspective on this image. Due to the apparent panoramic stitch it might not be possible but I'd try and level out the horizon on the right hand side, if it's possible to do so without cropping the paw off the dog.

This image pops so well, especially with the low key background paired with the bright subject. The subtle colours from the face, eye and bill really stand out and the pose you've captured is really aesthetically pleasing, drawing you into the eye.

The fence acts as a fabulous natural frame for the subject and also adds to the context and narrative. The eyes pop so well with that vibrant colour and catchlight and the composition is spot on with the subject looking into the frame.

I really like the expression you've captured in this image and the natural surroundings are still included without being distracting. The focus and exposure as spot on. Be cautious with pushing the saturation too far in post processing as it can often lead to unnatural colours.

This image is highly atmospheric and really does give you many reasons to explore the image and the various features. The exposure is spot on with no blown highlights despite some bright light and the composition is well chosen with two subjects present.

I love the warm hues on this image, whilst not being over processed or pushed too far. The shallow depth of field really enhances the tack sharp details on the fur and face. I'd consider a square crop for this image if you want to change the aspect ratio.

I love the crisp, cool feel and colour palette in this image. Fences can often distract or reduce the quality of an image but on this occasion I think it works really well. Arguably the fence post acts as a partial natural frame for the gorgeous horse.

I like how the branch starts from the bottom right corner and draws you directly into the bird. I'd consider a slight crop whilst still keeping the branch in the bottom corner. There also appears to be slight chromatic aberration which can be easily removed in post processing to enhance the quality of the image.

I love how much that eye ring pops from the image and it really draws you in in an almost hypnotic way. The shallow depth of field enhances the sharpness of the scales and spines along with that wonderful black background.

Squirrels have such huge potential in photography but are another subject that are often overlooked in favour of more 'exciting' subjects. You've shown here why they're worth paying attention too: you've captured an almost comedic expression, great composition and framing and the warmth of the hues is fabulous.

You've captured a fabulous expression on the dog here with clear, rapid action taking place. With this in mind, your shutter speed is spot on to ensure you don't suffer from any accidental motion blur, leading to each whisp of fur being perfectly frozen!

I really like this as a square crop and the tree and branch works well as a natural frame to draw you in. The shallow depth of field gives great separation and bokeh from the background and enhances the sharpness on the fur. I'd consider increasing the exposure slightly.

This image works really well with a square crop and I love how natural the colour palette is whilst still being vibrant and punchy. The composition and framing couldn't be any better and the green foliage in the background frames them nicely.
