I love the character you've captured in this handsome antelope and the colour palette is divine and warm. The composition is good with nice symmetry in the face allowing you to centralise the face and the focus is spot on.

What a cracking piece of action! I really like the subtle rain you've captured as it adds atmosphere, paired with the motion blur you've captured in the wings which emphasises the action. The composition is great and the focus is perfect on both birds.

I love how well you've frozen the water with the slightest blur still giving us an idea of the movement in the scene. The framing and composition is lovely and I like the colour palette with some vibrant hues in the background.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Animals’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Landscapes’.

I really like the ethereal feel of this image with the nice backlighting and rim light around the horse. If you struggle with lens flare when shooting towards the sun, try using a lens hood or if this isn't working you can hover your hand over the sun to try and block it reaching down the lens.

I really like the context you've captured in this image, with fantastic action along with a great composition and wonderfully vibrant colours whilst not being overly processed. It goes to show that you don't need to fill the frame to capture engaging wildlife images.

I love the detail captured here, along with the wonderfully silky bokeh background with great colour contrast too. The curious and cheeky expression is very engaging and the reflection and catchlight in the eye adds an additional element. Great image!

I really like the aspect ratio and crop on this image and the colour palette with the reds and greens are really complimentary. Be cautious when post processing not to push the sharpening too far as it can sometimes be detrimental to the overall image.

You've used the surrounding foliage really well here to frame this tender moment, but it also gives good context of the surrounding habitat. The colour palette is warm and aesthetically pleasing and with your depth of field you've also ensured that both subjects are perfectly in focus.

The centralised composition works really well here with the symmetry in the face and body and I like how you've got good context of the surroundings without being overly details or distraction. The colour palette is a quintessential winter scene with a lovely, hazy background.

I really like the separation you've captured between the subject and the background and the vibrant colours really pop from the image as well as being complimentary to one another. I'd consider reducing the exposure contrast slightly between the subject and the background.

I like the soft expression you've captured on this Puffin and the subtle blue hue in the background and clean surroundings really help to isolate it so we can appreciate every detail. The detail in the feathers is pin sharp and I love how well the reds and oranges pop from the image.

The blues in the eyes are so mesmerising and really draws you into the image and keeps you engaged. The detail you've captured in the eyes is fantastic too, showing every fine detail with intricate detail. I like the square aspect ratio as it works well with the composition.

I love the subtle colours in this image, oddly (but in a good way) giving it both a desaturated feel but also having some real pop too. The composition is good and I love that you've captured perfect symmetry in the face and that striking eye contact.

The detail captured here is truly fantastic with pin sharp focus throughout the entire subject, yet a perfectly clean background ensuring nothing distracts away. The composition is good with the meerkat looking into the frame and drawing you in at the same time.
