New Joiners - Animals #723

April 2024

I love the contrast and lighting on this image, with the shadows framing this lethargic looking subject so well and adding a dynamic feel at the same time. The composition is spot on and the warm colour palette is fantastic.

I love how the tree trunk is framing this handsome red squirrel so well. I'd strongly recommend cropping slightly from the bottom left corner in order to get the squirrel to look into the frame more and also to remove the lighter background peeping through.

What a fabulous capture of some great action which can be easily missed! I love the shape and how you've captured some subtle motion blur in the wings and water but retained pin sharp detail in the face and body.

The framing of this image is quite unique and the sharp lines from the brickwork in front and behind create an intriguing frame for these two mandarin ducks. I'd consider increasing the exposure of the image ever so slightly to bring out a bit more detail.

The shape you've captured in the wings is fantastic and the subtle pink on the face contrasts well against the brown plumage. It's a personal preference but I think a slight crop to remove the peeping twig in the top right and also a crop from the left to get the bird to look into the frame a bit more would enhance the image even further!

The shallow depth of field really works well here to enhance the detail and sharpness on the fur, face and eyes whilst also reducing any distraction from the background. The composition is good but I'd consider cooling down the white balance ever so slightly, whilst still maintaining that golden mane.

I really love the colour palette in this image, with a high key feel accentuating the vibrant pinks and reds on the comb and wattles. I like how there's the tiniest bit of eye peeping through the feathers and the composition is great.

The soft bokeh background in this image is divine and I love how well it separates the osprey from her surroundings. The yellow in the eyes pops incredibly well and draws you into the image. Try to resist the urge to overly crop your images as sometimes a bit of context of the surroundings can enhance your image.

I really like how you've managed to isolate these two horses whilst still giving us a great context of the surroundings and the herd. The lighter coats really pop from the image and you've composed it really well to get both subjects to look into the frame.

You've done really well here to isolate the subject whilst also showing us the surrounding habitat which enhances the image far more than if you had simply cropped in on the subject. I'd consider reducing the contrast ever so slightly.

The colour and light in this image is truly spectacular and I love how well you've used the bokeh to separate the subject from the surroundings. The composition works really well even with the subject technically looking out of the frame.

You've captured this image well and I like how well the light is catching the eyes, drawing you into the image. The clean background and foreground ensures there are no distractions to pull your attention away. If you come across opportunities like this again in the future, consider increasing your depth of field to ensure the full subject is in focus.

You've used the path here really well as both a leading line and also a partial frame, aided further by the contrast in light. I like the movement you've captured, almost as if the adult is actively protecting the young one from danger.

The contrast of light in this image really enhances the mood and atmosphere and I love how well it catches the subjects face and eyes. The wall partially frames the subject whilst the surrounding elements don't distract away. You could crop slightly from the top right but this isn't essential at all.
