New Joiners - Animals #765

November 2024

I love the lighting and how well the colours pop from this image. It's a shame that both subjects aren't in focus, but without stacking that would be near impossible with aperture alone and I think you chose the right one to focus on.

I love the expression and pose you've captured on this energetic cockatoo. You've given it enough space for the wings to splay out and not be cropped off and I love the subtle yellows you've captured with that gorgeous side lighting.

I love that dramatic, fixated eye on the lion and the detail is pin sharp on the fur, whiskers and face. Be cautious if you're cloning out grass or other elements as it can leave behind artefacts that are easily missed.

I love the dramatic light and colour in this image and how well the bird pops from the surrounding habitat. The lighting is gorgeous and the shallow depth of field ensures no distracting elements are introduced to the image to draw our eye away.

I love how well you've lined this image up and it adds so much atmosphere. The colours are muted other than the moon and reflection which helps the subject pop more and whilst it's a centralised composition, it still works.

I love how well you've captured this dramatic image and whilst we can't see the front vultures face, it doesn't detract away from the image as a whole. The detail you've captured on the wings is fantastic and with nice, muted light there's no harsh contrast to contend with.

I love how well you've framed this image, in such that whilst on the preview it might not look that stand out, but when you open it fully it truly shines. The framing is fantastic and the colours are vibrant yet natural.

I love the pose you've captured here, with those tiny droplets flicking off the feet really adding to it. Whilst it's clear this is a bit of a crop, I recommend resisting the urge to overly sharpen the image as it can add artefacts that hinder the overall image.

What a unique image and what an incredible experience this must've been too. I love how you've used the tusk as a leading line to draw people into the image and the detail we can see on the skin is mesmerising.

Whilst this may not be 'true' wildlife, I must admit I really appreciate the composition and aspect ratio regardless. This is a truly artistic framing and it works so well in black and white. Were it taken in the wild, this would be a masterpiece!

I love the colour palette you've captured in this image, with so much varience and yet, plenty of warmth. The framing is great with the branches helping to frame this curious robin and the composition is spot on with the subject looking into the frame.

I love how you've used the surrounding foliage here to act as a natural frame and help draw you into the image and subject. I like the subtle flecks of colour from the leaves, but wonder how this image would work in black and white too.

The colour variance in this image is really gorgeous, with that cold autumnal mist in the background contrasting well against the warm tones on this handsome young stag. The catch lighting in the eye is fabulous and the detail is spectacular.

I really like the composition and framing in this image: whilst people often advise against centralising your subject it works well when you have a level of symmetry or if there are multiple subjects in the scene. That burst of colour from the flowers really enhances the image.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Animals’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Landscapes’.

I love the dramatic and moody feel of this image with the heavy raindrops adding some depth to the image. I like the warm yet atmospheric colour palette and despite breaking a compositional guideline of getting the subject to look into the frame, it still works. I'd love to see a higher resolution version of this image.
