New Joiners - Animals #777

January 2025

I really do love this image and the black and white really enhance the detail in the surrounding habitat too. Given the circumstances it would've been difficult to change settings quickly enough but were I to encounter this again, I'd opt for shutter priority to get the speed up quickly.

I love the framing and composition in this image and the colours are so vibrant and aesthetically pleasing without being overly processed. It works well with this aspect ratio but would also suit a square crop if you wanted something different.

I love the framing you've captured here, with a brilliant composition, natural framing and a leading line drawing you into this gorgeous hummingbird. I like the 'slow' shutter speed and the effect it's had on the wings, adding to the overall image.

The catch lighting you captured in the right subjects eye is truly gorgeous and really draws you into the image. It works in black and white but I'd be curious to see how the colour version looks too as black and white doesn't 'add' anything here.

The atmosphere in this image is divine, with that gorgeous backlighting during the golden hour paired with the dust and/or insects filling the air. There isn't much I'd change overall and the exposure is good with no blown highlights or lost shadows.

The amount of detail you've captured in this image is truly divine and I love the contrast between those gorgeous, warm hues on the cat compared to the desaturated surroundings. If this is a crop and it's possible, I'd ensure the paw isn't cropped on the left hand side.

What a gorgeous capture! I love how the surrounding branches and presumably other bird frames the main subject so well and with great separation from the background, we can truly appreciate all the intricate details on the face, eye and feathers.

What a moment to capture! This image has so much going on, but not in a way that distracts you. Naturally I can't say without saying the original but artificially blaring a background can lead to artefacts (see the closest balloon) so be cautious with that and ask if it was truly necessary.

The amount of detail you've captured here is striking, especially with that gorgeous eye which is truly captivating. I think this image would work even better if you cropped it slightly from the right of the image to get the bird to look into the frame rather than being centralised.

I love the narrative and context you have in this image and it works well in black and white to enhance the contrast and punch. Whilst this aspect ratio does work, it would work well as a square crop too.

What a moment to capture! I really love how both 'subjects' are orientated in the same direction and you chose your settings well to ensure that both the subject was frozen and sharp but also that you had as much depth of field as possible.

I really love the framing in this image, paired with the gorgeous catch lighting on the eyes which stands out from the surrounding elements. If this is a crop I'd be interested to see a tiny bit more space around the subject but this isn't a 'dealbreaker' at all.

The near symmetry you've captured in this image is lovely and I like how well they stand out from the image given the contrast of colour. It works well in colour but I'd be curious to see if the contrast pops even more in black and white.

The low angle and perspective in this image really makes it for me, with that leading line created in the paving stones drawing you into our main subject and continuing with the eye line of the dog. Whilst it's slightly centralised it still works well given the fencing adding to the framing on the left.

You've used the surrounding foliage well to frame this gorgeous subject and the shallow depth of field ensures that there's not too much contrast or detail to pull your attention away. It works well in colour but I'd be curious to see it in black and white too.
