New Joiners - Animals #781

This image is great story teller and demonstrates this Lab's behavior in the field. If you look closely, the Ring Necked Pheasant's feathers neatly surround the dog's eye, but do not cover it completely which creates some impact. There are some subtle lines in the grassy field that cut through the frame nicely.

Snakes are scary for most, but for me they're just stunning reptiles. The curves created by the Emerald Tree Boa's body frame the head perfectly. The glimmering scales immediately capture my eye as do the water drops in the background. The snake's eye acts as the centerpiece of the composition.

I've never come across a photo of a Pallas Cat before, but I must say it is a striking animal. The lush foliage and loose composition provide a sense of surrounding and also let the subject breath, literally, in the frame. While the cat is obscured a bit behind the rock, it doesn't detract too much.

A loose composition is just what the doctor ordered for this lineup of Elephants. Each one of them is separated with an equal distance and the uniform line is moving in a diagonal that splits right through the frame. The trees in the background help assert the environment in the composition.

This cute little guy reminds me of a Shetland pony. The black and white conversion is a great idea as the dark subject comes to life in a foggy scene. The mist softens the background and prevents any distractions from coming to life. Upon close inspection, the bright spots on the Pony's nose and forehead give it a sense of identify.

This Roe Deer shot is a good example of when a shallow depth of field should be used. The surrounding environment doesn't add to the frame and is best used as a blur to create some color and minimize distractions. There are some nice textures on the antlers and the connection is strong.

This Dog image is a classic example of the use of leading lines. The steps bring you into the frame and right to the subject's face. The hand rails on each side guide you even further throughout the scene. The bright yellow tones add a nice pop of color and compliment the teal walls.

This Cat image is the definition of a split frame presentation. The frame is perfectly split by the wooden post with a. different story to tell on each side. It's notable that each cat shows off a unique posture and they're different colors. The pano crop seems to cut away any distractions that were on the top of the original capture.

I know cats like to play with yarn and this scene involving rope implies that behavior, but on a massive scale! It's an interesting play on shapes and again, I like the black and white conversion here. The Cat's paw is positioned almost perfectly as it mimics the rope lines.

I believe this might be a Yellow Rumped Warbler chowing down on a cedar berry. The dorsal view of the bird is the right call as it shows off the yellow rump and flanks. It's also a major plus that the warbler has a berry sitting perfectly in its bill.

I absolutely love the light and shadow in this Katydid image and it's amazing how they both converge on the subject. There's also a sense of drama and mystery that run throughout the frame. The cattails introduce some sharp lines into the composition and break up the soft tones nicely. An artistic and noteworthy picture!

The grit and grain in this shot give the impression of a vintage capture and it leaves an artistic impression on the viewer. The intensity captured on the Dog's face is palpable as is the sense of motion that's implied due to the slight blurring. The vehicle in the background adds some context to the overall scene.

This is an "in your face" Cat image and almost forces you to back up on at first glance. Getting super close to your subject and shooting at a wide angle creates a distortion with anything near the lens becoming much larger when compared to the background. In this case, the Cat's body is almost non-existent.

This black and white image of a Chicken is powerful on many levels. The combination of shadows and highlights maximize contrast and introduce drama. The metal cage tells a story and the placement of the bird on the lower right corner of the frame is a bold compositional choice by the photographer.
