New Joiners - Animals #789

March 2025

This image works really well in black and white and I like how each of the three main subjects frame one another really well. The shallow depth of field gives us some context without introducing distractions that could draw us away.

To say this is both a phone photo but also in a captive scenario, you've captured it incredibly well and in such a compelling way. I love it in black and white and there's such a narrative being told with that gaze.

This is another great example of how capable phones can be when it comes to photography. The quality is fantastic and the colours are subtle but aesthetically pleasing. I like the composition with the framing from the chair drawing you in.

I love just how much crisp detail you've captured in this image, along with the light hitting those few stray whiskers. It works well in colour but could also be a good candidate for black and white if you wanted to enhance the contrast further.

What's the chances of the eyes matching up so well with the paintwork?! How fantastic, along with brilliant framing from the bars in the front and that mesmerising pose. The exposure, composition and focus are all spot on and I wouldn't change anything!

I love how the fence works as both a partial natural frame but also a bit of a leading line. The image work well in colour but I feel it could be even more impactful in black and white to enhance the contrast.

The super low angle you've captured here works so well with that utterly gorgeous bokeh from the light reflecting off the water. The shallow depth of field, both due to the aperture and the angle really helps to get the duck to pop from the image.

This heron has such a bold, proud look to him and I love the layers of separation you have moving into the background and that lush green foliage. If this is a crop I'd recommend bringing the feet fully back into the image.

What an incredible moment to capture, not. just one but 2 humpbacks breaching?! The exposure is spot on, which can sometimes be more tricky in these scenarioes with the white water and every bit of the moment is frozen perfectly with a well chosen shutter speed.

I really love the asymmetry you've captured here with that gorgeous reflection adding to the image. The fact that the subject isn't necessarily instantly obvious adds to its charm. I'd consider a very small crop to remove the green reflection in the top right corner.

The contrast of both colours but also the depth of the shadows in this image are really gorgeous, meaning that our eye is instantly drawn to the catchlight in the eye. The detail is fantastic and I love the slight framing from the post.

Due to the slight side lighting in this image, I love how it's add that contrast across the face meaning that left eye pops so much more from the image. The eye contact is captivating and the colour and detail in the eye is mesmerising.

There's so much to explore in this image, without going so far as to be a hinderance. I love the framing from the house and fencing and black and white works well. There's truly nothing I would change to make the image 'better'.

This image has so much going for it: the contrast between the dog and the surroundings really draws you in, enhanced further by the framing from the flowers in the foreground. I'd consider a slight crop to fully centralise the subject.

There's such a beautiful atmosphere in this image and I love the expression you've captured on the subject. The colour palette works really well, especially with that hint of warmth on the pooch and I love the reflection on the eyes.
