New Joiners - Animals #795

April 2025

Whilst the surrounding area is quite cluttered, the shallow depth of field ensures this isn’t a distraction whilst still adding some context. I really like the slightly sepia colour scheme and the detail and focus on this sweet interaction is spot on!

You've captured such fantastic reflections here, enhanced so well with that dark background making those vibrant colours pop even more. The composition and focus is good with great detail in the plumage. I'd consider increasing the exposure ever so slightly on the duck itself.

I love the unique composition with a wider angle lens here as it gives us a perspective that we usually wouldn’t see. It works really well in black and white and I love the slight catchlight and reflection in the eyes.

You’ve captured a great pose here and the shallow depth of field helps to isolate the otter from the background. Given the body direction, shape and tail, paired with the direction the subject is looking towards, it’s a difficult one to compose but this works well!

The columns to the left not only add depth but also act as both a leading line and partial frame, along with adding some nice context. I love the shape on this handsome peacock and despite having no ‘colour’, he pops from the image.

I really love what you’ve done with this image, not only for the artistic flare but also because it breaks some of the typical compositional ‘rules’, showing why they’re made to be broken! It works well in black and white and has an almost etheric feel.

That eye contact is so piercing and almost intimidating, enhanced further with the contrast against the blue. The composition is spot on with the rocks framing the subject so well and you’ve got great separation against the background, whilst still giving us context.

This image works so well for several reasons: our eyes are naturally lead on a journey through to the back and the colour pops so well on the cows against a wintery backdrop. If I was being super picky I'd suggest the slightest crop from the left without cropping any of the tree out.

You've captured some brilliant separation against the background here and. really like the pose and subtle glow in the eyes. It work well in colour but could also be a candidate for black and white if you were keen to try something different.

You've captured so much detail in the fur and face here that it really keeps you engaged in the image,. This could work extremely well as a square crop too which is worth exploring given how photogenic and well framed his face is.

The contrast in light here works so favourably, giving this image a whole new level of dimension and punch for the viewer. It works brilliantly with that warm colour but could easily be a candidate for black and white if you wanted to enhance the contrast even further.

I love how much personality shines through in this image alone, with the image enhanced further by a few flakes of falling snow adding to the atmosphere. The fence in the background for me works like a natural frame around this handsome subject.

You've used your depth of field well here to ensure the subjects in the background don't distract away from the main one, helped further with that contrast created from the lighting. Centralising your subject was the right decision given the symmetry in the face and body.
