You've captured some really fantastic behaviour in this image! I love how the trees act as a natural frame, paired with the broken logs below. The exposure is spot on with great depth and focus to create a worthy winning image!

The shallow depth of field helps to isolate the butterfly against the surrounding elements, although I advise caution if done in post processing as this can sometimes leave artefacts behind around the edges of subjects. I'd consider a mild crop from the bottom right corner.

The catch lighting on the eye here really draws you into the image paired with that lovely, crisp detail on the beads of water. I like it in a square crop and whilst the subject is technically centralised here, it still works.

You've framed the cicada so well here, with lovely depth and framing against the surrounding flowers and foliage. When it comes to post processing, it's often recommended to be subtle with any saturation or vibrance adjustments to ensure the colours remain natural whilst still popping.

The blue in this image pops so well, it's practically punching out of the screen! This is aided further with the shallow depth of field adding some lovely depth with that foreground bokeh. The image could benefit from a very slight crop from the bottom left corner.

The focus and exposure on this image is absolutely spot on, with such tactile detail in the fur and mane. You've got good separation against the background whilst still having some context of the surroundings. If this is a crop, try to give the zebra a bit of space on the left to look into.

The colours are so aesthetically pleasing here, with those beautiful pinky purple hues. The depth is spot on to ensure the heron pops well and you chose wisely with the portrait orientation rather than landscape given the tall stature of the subject.

Meet the expert judge

What an intimidating stare! This image has so much atmosphere and tension which is enhanced further with the sepia tones. It works well in portrait orientation and whilst it's good in sepia, it could also be a candidate for black and white.

Whilst I suspect this image may be 'marmite' for some people, I love it! The twigs and branches frame the subject so well and it works better in black and white than in colour due to the atmosphere and feel it gives the image.

I love the character in this image, partly due to your choice to go monochrome. The shallow depth of field works well to isolate the dog against what could otherwise be a cluttered background. I'd consider a very mild crop from the right of the frame.

I love how you've captured each flamingo in a different stage of flight, giving the viewer more to explore and enjoy in the image. The colours pop so well against the surrounding habitat along with the contrast in the exposure.

You've captured this so well, with great focus, depth and exposure. The foreground and background gives us some context without being a distraction. I'd recommend a slight crop from the right of the image to get the bee to fly into the frame a bit more.

Could you have framed this any better with that break in the fallen tree?! This image works really well with a square crop with the deer looking into the frame well. Whilst the twigs and branches above can add a bit of distraction, they don't hinder the image.

This image works so well in part due to the contrast between the well exposed subjects against a neutral, black background. The detail and focus is spot on with good depth too and I like the composition and aspect ratio in portrait rather than landscape.

This is a wonderful and impactful portrait which really isolates the eyes and face. The composition is great and I love the softness in the expression, paired with the lower contrast black and white: it wouldn't work as well as a gritty monochrome.
