New Joiners - Animals #849

November 2025

You've used the surrounding habitat so well here to create a gorgeous natural frame which also adds some nice depth to the image. The composition and focus is spot on, paired with great exposure despite the slightly side and back lit conditions.

There is so much atmosphere in this image and I love how well you've used the layers of the scene to create a compelling and beautiful image. If there's any crop here, try to bring back the feet of the zebra but this is definitely not essential.

Black headed gulls are so often overlooked as photographic subjects but they don'r deserve to be overlooked as you've shown here. The focus is so crisp with great depth which gives us some context without distracting away from that striking plumage.

What a brilliant capture! The light and colours are gorgeous and the fact you captured this on a drone makes it all the more impressive. The focus is spot on with great depth and those sun beams breaking across the horizon are gorgeous.

This portrait is so striking, partially down to that eye contact and how pin sharp the focus is but also due to the contrast throughout the fur and face. Whilst it could work in black and white, I prefer the warm colour.

The warm colours you've captured here are really gorgeous, paired with the lovely soft light capturing every droplet kicking up from the sea. The composition is spot on with a good horizon alignment too and the depth of field has ensured all relevant details are in focus.

I love how you've framed and captured this image, with the contrasting lines in the pavement and curb acting as a natural frame and brilliant contrast against the lighter paving stones. It works well with them slightly to the right rather than centralised.

Whilst the surrounding elements in this image risk being a notable distraction, the spotlighting is hitting the owl so well that it pops from the image fantastically. This is helped further with the catchlight in the eye and the lovely warm palette.

You've used the surrounding so well here to frame this tender moment, one that needs no caption or narration for viewers to understand what's happening. I'd consider very slightly cooling down the white balance in this image but this is a personal preference.

The light and detail on the subject is gorgeous and whilst it's quite harsh side lighting, you can still see so much detail on the left. I'd strongly recommend a crop from the top right corner to move the chipmunk more to the right.

What a truly awesome capture and I love how many of them are curiously peeping out of the image. Compositionally, I think this image would be notably stronger if you opted for a square crop and removed the wall on the right in the process.

The low perspective works so well here, with a great, shallow depth of field ensuring the subject pops well. This is enhanced further with the contrast. Whilst the subject looks like the horizon is off, you've chosen to align it with the background which was wise.

Silhouettes for the most part are 'easy' to do, but they're definitely not easy to do well: you've most certainly achieved the latter here. The out of focus bush in the background frames it so well whilst also adding depth.

What a great capture of a subject that is often observed at a more static pace: it makes your capture of behaviour all the more impressive. The depth is great in aiding the isolation of the tortoise and I love the grit being thrown up.

Those eyes with the reflection and light have so much warmth and thought behind them: you can't help but anthropomorphise this handsome monkey. If you can, the image would have even more pull and appeal if you can crop the branch out from the left.
