New Joiners - Animals #855

November 2025

I love the geometric feel of this image, with the cables across the sky framing the gull so well: if they weren't there, the image would have no depth or impact. Whilst it works in portrait orientation, I'd consider landscape too.

The greens are so vibrant and aesthetically pleasing and helps enhance the contrast against the subject. The branches in the back left act as a partial natural frame along with the bush on the right. I'd consider a slight crop from the right to get the heron to look into the frame a bit more.

You've used the tree branches here as a partial natural frame, paired with the contrast of light this leopard pops so well from the image. The composition is good with the leopards eye line drawing us into the image and keeping us engaged.

You've captured a great piece of action in this image, and I love that you have direct eye contact down the lens. I would consider converting this to a square aspect ratio, as I feel like it would work really well as a tight portrait.

This image has so much atmosphere and works beautifully in every respect. The Arctic Fox moving into the frame against an onslaught of snow and ice with such great detail against the darker background as well. I like the slanting horizon with plenty of 'negative' space.

Such a beautiful animal and you've captured such stillness in this image. The colour palette is consistent and warm and it's almost as if you can see emotion in the eyes with some gentle and subtle reflection from the light source.

Really awesome capture with those wonderful fine flex of ice in the air as this eagle swoops in for the bait. The colour palette works so well, both warm and pastel in colour and yet clear that it is crisp and cold.

The layers in this image works really well and it was a wise decision to convert to black and white as it gives us more focus on the depth of the image. The composition is spot on and the detail on the subject is crisp.

Well some may argue that this image has a lot of clutter, it actually works to its strength with the cheetahs blending in well to their surroundings, both due to their markings but also the consistent colour palette across the image.

The warm colour palette only enhances this image and I love how both lions are looking in opposite directions, albeit towards the middle of the image, creating some form of symmetry. The horizon line is perfectly straight with great focus and separation from any surrounding elements.

What a wonderful moment to capture and I love how there's a variety of facial expressions across the three. It's very minor, but if this is a crop I'd recommend giving the adult a tiny bit more space above it to avoid clipping off the top flecks of fur.

There is such an abundance of detail in the fur and face on this gorgeous roe and the light catching the iris, giving us that warm amber glow draws you in despite a lot of detail in the surrounding foliage.

You captured wonderful depth in this image by shooting through the foreground foliage and I love her well the colour contrasts against a sea of greens and browns. I would recommend cropping in from the top left corner to get the robin to look into the frame more.

What a truly awesome capture! You chose your aperture well to ensure that both birds are in focus despite being on slightly different focal planes and the shape the wings is fantastic. I would consider a very slight crop from the top right corner.

This image has so much contrast and depth, and I love how well the cow pops out against the background. Be cautious if you're doing selective exposure adjustments or altering the edges as this can show up with image artefacts.
