You've created great separation from the background here which helps to isolate the subject nicely. If this is a crop, try to move the butterfly more to the right of the image and I'd recommend reducing the colour saturation slightly.

You've captured a great moment here and I love the pose but also the layers from the fore to background. I would consider a very slight crop from the right to move the deer away from the centre and more to the right.

You've achieved a gorgeous image here, especially using the subject to block the harsh light along with retaining good detail in the cow. I'd recommend straightening the horizon in the background as whilst the cow looks on an 'even' footing, the horizon could distract people away.

This is a gorgeous image, with lovely context and surrounding habitat included to add more interest to the image. I love how the leaves are sheltering the bird and the branch helps to frame the bird, with fantastic colours throughout.

The pose you've captured here is gorgeous with that paw perched on the rock. The eyes are full of expression and intrigue which gives us a good narrative. The colour is nice here but this could also be a candidate for black and white.

Amongst a desaturated and dark background, this owl stands out like 'a sore thumb' despite having a similar colour palette. I like your choice to centralise the subject in this instance but I'd recommend a slight, overall crop to remove the lighter tree in the bottom left corner.

The light and colour on this image transforms it, giving us great separation from the background and isolating the heron well. I would consider a slight crop from the left of the image to get the subject to look into the frame more.

This image works well, with good context of the surrounding habitat but a clear window through to the squirrel. Whilst I like the subject being small in the frame, I'd consider a slight crop from the left of the image to move the squirrel away from the centre slightly.

The surrounding branches work so well to add a natural frame to the image, as well as helping to add depth to the image. It works well in colour but could also be a candidate for black and white given the contrast.

The depth of field is spot on here, with nice framing from the jeans helping to isolate the cat well. The light was clearly challenging here with the ISO flying up despite your other settings being good, so I'd consider running this through denoising software.

I love the colour in the background here, with such warm and vibrant colours which contrast well against the crow. If possible, I'd try to increase the exposure on the image slightly as I have to turn my screen brightness up to 100% in order to see the full details.

This is such a fantastic image and just goes to further show that you don't need to fill the frame with your subject to create a great wildlife image. The context and surrounding elements makes this image with a great composition and depth.

You've chosen the perfect moment here with the foot leaving the water: it makes the image more dynamic and adds pace and movement into the image. The colours are gorgeous with the light catching the eye and iridescence on the feathers well.

I see so many images like, and many just look 'the same'. The reason I've awarded this is because it's different! I like the edit, I like the contrast and brightness on the jellyfish and it works well desaturated, but I'd recommend converting it fully to black and white.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Animals’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Landscapes’.

The warm colours on the subject and especially the eyes helps to isolate this cheetah against the surrounding elements. I would consider a square aspect ratio or alternatively if this is cropped, try to move the cheetah more to the right of the image.
