New Joiners - Landscapes #505

February 2021

This is fantastic, it has bags of atmosphere and the black and white conversion really suits it. The sun is blown out however it's pretty much impossible to have it any other way and it doesn't really detract from what is a lovely photo. The crepuscular rays look tremendous too!

This looks like an awesome place to visit, America has some super weird and interesting landscapes. I like the leading line of the road and the central composition of the rock pinnacles. I'd maybe have cropped it to a 16:9 or thereabouts to lose a little of the sky but it still looks great. Watch out when you're processing for dust spots in the sky as it looks like you've had some dust or a hair in the upper right section of your sensor!

I like the playful aspect of this image and the symmetry of the rocks, it's an unusual shot but having the 2 people in it makes it work. If you'd shot this without them then it definitely wouldn't have the same impact.

I like this as it's got a great sense of scale, you can really see the size of the mountains. You've done a good job of the pano despite not having a tripod, using a fast shutter speed has been crucial to keeping the sharpness!

Bluebells are a firm favourite of mine and are not really easy to get a clean shot of, but you've done a nice job here. The colours are great, you obviously had nice weather which makes a huge difference and the path winding through guides your eyes through the image nicely. I like that you shot at f4 as well with a longer lens.

I absolutely love this image, it's exactly what you think of when you heard the term 'diamond beach' in Iceland and it's done really well. Perfect shutter speed for that blurred water but still retaining loads of texture, it's easy to overdo it and end up with a blurred mess but this looks fantastic!

What an epic landscape, looks like an amazing place to explore. I like the inclusion of the 2 people in the corner, If I was to be super critical I'd maybe have had a tiny bit less sky in and included the people a bit more but it's still a nice image.

Meteora is somewhere I'm yet to visit, but it looks incredible. The sunlight really elevates this, I love the contrast in strong light on the roof and walkway against the background cliff in shadow. It's composed nicely too as you've resisted the temptation to crop right in, showing the cliff behind gives a great sense of scale!

This is quite a calming image, with no crazy colours or huge dominating foreground it's easy to look at. I like the leading lines in the sand and it's nice and sharp all the way through to the mountains behind.

I like the simplicity of this image, there's not a great deal to it but it's still pleasing to look at. You're right when you say it looks like the sky is tapering towards your family, the wide-angle option on the iPhone really exaggerates the perspective! A great use of the tools to hand!

A nice shot, phones nowadays have great cameras and it's sometimes hard to tell shots from those taken on a DSLR. You've caught a nice scene here, with the mist and low sun. The sun's a bit blown out but that's unavoidable when you're shooting straight at it, so I wouldn't worry about that. All in all, a lovely photo.

Autumn in Scotland is always a great sight, it's a beautiful country but during autumn it looks particularly good. I like the composition here, it's not crowded and feels balanced. I'd have maybe darkened the sky down 1/3 stops but it's still a lovely photo.

Nice to see something a little different, it almost looks like an abstract painting. I've tried this a couple of times and never really been overly impressed with the results but I think you've done a nice job of it here!

I'm not usually a fan of cityscapes but I quite like this, nice colours and a pretty clean composition make for a pleasing photo. Well done for resisting the urge to use a super long exposure too as it helps that you've kept some of the detail in the water.
