This has to take the top spot, it's beautiful. Aurora is a weird one to photograph, as choosing a composition that isn't just sky can be tricky. You've done well here including the house. I like the shapes of the lights and although the shape is out of your control you've used a short shutter speed to capture it and freeze it. Nicely done

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Landscapes’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Animals’.

An impressive view, and a bold move processing it in B&W. It looks nice, I do think you could have lifted the shadows a little more, as the forest in the right looks a tad dark and draws the eye a little. Nicely composed though and including the town gives it a great sense of scale.

I love this, such a simple composition and great use of negative space. The exposure is perfect, I'm glad you decided not to clone out the sheep, they fit well. There looks to be some banding in the sky, perhaps introduced in post-processing? Keep an eye on that, as you'll really notice it if you print images off.

This looks fantastic, that sky is to die for. I think had the low cloud not been there it wouldn't have had the same impact but you've captured some really nice conditions there. I like the colours reflected in the water too!

I think this has a ton of potential to be a fantastic image, but the heavy vignette really kills it. It's made the sky look really unnatural and takes a lot away from a strong photo. Keep an eye on it during processing!

I think you've done a great job despite not being able to get your original shot. I love the use of shallow depth of field to give the look you have. It's got some great atmosphere. Not bad for an emergency backup shot I'd say!!

I'm really drawn to this image, I think it's just the fact that you've shot it at such a wide aperture. It kinda looks like a bugs point of view from low down, if that makes sense. Maybe you could have underexposed it a bit to protect the highlights but I don't think it spoils it, nice job :)

What an epic sky, I love it when I'm out and have conditions like this. Nice reflections in the river too, I'd maybe lighten the shadows a small amount and clone out the man but apart from those small points I'd be happy with this.

Wow, what a view! This looks like a fantastic place to visit, I'd have been tempted to shoot here with a telephoto, the layers in the distance are beautiful. I think your processing has been a little heavy-handed, the colours are very strong and have become over saturated, especially so in the top left of the sky. Keep an eye on this!

This has the potential to be a really strong image, there's a couple of small points to consider if you don't mind me pointing them out? I like the use of the shallow depth of field, it's creative and looks good. Keep an eye on your horizon, when shooting water it needs to be level. The main thing I noticed is the old pier and the poles are both very close to the edge of the photo. Try and give your subject a little more room, as you have a space between them where there's nothing. I'd maybe have been tempted to move a metre to the left so they were closer together in the frame!
