New Joiners - Landscapes #548

August 2021

I like the thought process behind this, including the tops of the 3 buildings has made a big difference to the look. I think without them the image wouldn't work. Capturing the night sky isn't easy, I can make out the milky way but the heavy vignette is dominating the scene.

Canada looks amazing, It's somewhere I haven't been to yet but I'm sure I'll get there one day. I like the composition here with the 3 huts centre stage, the vignette is a tad dark at the bottom it'd have been nice to show off the colour of the water a little more. Nice use of the Orton effect to soften it all, it looks great.

I like this a lot, it's composed nicely and the colours are good. It's exposed well and you've done a good job of keeping sharpness despite the wind. Ordinarily I'd have suggested using a wider aperture like f11 to get a faster shutter speed but in this case you'd not have got the sun burst had you done that so good decision staying at f16! I'd have maybe cloned out the lens flare but I appreciate it's in a tough place to manage and might not have been possible!

This is a great image, it really shows off the scale of the glacier! I chose this as number one as it is totally different from anything else entered and it grabbed my interest immediately. It's composed nicely and exposed well, good job!

I like this, I think it'd have worked without the tree but including it was a good choice. It adds an almost abstract element to the photo. I'm not 100% sold on the colour processing, I think it needs to be either full colour or a mono conversion. Nice composition though, and it's evenly exposed :)

Avenues of trees can make fantastic shots, with the right angle. For this to work, you need to really be dead centre shooting straight down the middle. Try and choose a time of day where the light will complement the scene and most crucially, make sure you nail the focus.

This looks like an epic vista, It's made me want to visit so you've done a good job there. Exposure wise it's nice and even, compositionally I'd have cropped some of the sky off to make a 16:9. I think removing some sky takes the horizon onto a third which aesthetically is more pleasing to the eye. Nice job overall, it looks like a fair hike too so kudos for that.

For a phone shot this is tremendous, the colours are nice and and it's evenly exposed. You've composed it well too. It's easy to ignore the cars in the car park too as the rest of the image holds plenty of interest!

This is a super photo, I really like the creative use of the shallow depth of field. The patterns in the sand look great, and the dunes in the background don't distract from the foreground. I kinda wish you'd tilted up just a tad as you've cut the very top of the dunes off in the top left but it's still a great shot :)

I wasn't aware there were rock formations like this in this part of the Dolomites, they are pretty spectacular. There are similar ones at Tre Cime di Lavaredo. I like the composition here, it's nice and balanced and you've exposed it well. Good job!

A nice, simple effective image. I like the soft layers in the dunes and the red colour created by the dust. I'd maybe have been tempted to crop this into either 16:9 or even 2:1 to make a letterbox shape, I think it's show off the layers even more :)

I really like this, exposure wise it looks spot on. I like the composition but I can't help but feel it needs a little bit of counter-clockwise rotation to balance it, although it might just be the lay of the land. It looks like a pretty nice place for a hike!

When I saw this at first I thought it was Norwegian Fjords, it looks very similar to the Lofoten archipelago. I'm glad you waited for the water to settle and the light to be right, it makes such a difference when you show a bit of patience to get the shot right. Nice job, it looks spot on.
