Great mood in this with the low swirling clouds, I've got a couple of points to make that will help you in the future if that's ok. Try and avoid things intruding from the image edges, even small things such as the branch on the right can make a huge impact on your image. When shooting water, keep the water level so it's not sloping left or right. Was it possible to get down to the water's edge? Getting really low down to the water can emphasise reflections and really show them off too!
The muted colours in this really suit it, I thought it was the Scottish Highlands when I first looked as it's a similar landscape. Being out in bad weather is great, it's so much more rewarding than getting out when there's no risk of getting wet! I'd maybe have pulled a grad over the sky in post and given it a bit more contrast and darkened it a little to enhance that angry mood but it still looks great how it is :)
I think this has the potential to be a really great shot, the colour toning on the sky is just that little bit too heavy. I've been here a few times and know that it can be tempting to try and create that mega morning light but sometimes less is more. The colours don't really match and I think if you'd added a more subtle tone it'd be a much stronger image. Having said that, you've composed it really nicely and the low mist looks fantastic swirling around the house and the layers throughout the photo look tremendous.

I like the thinking behind this. creating the layers with the telephoto. It's something I do when out in the mountains in Italy, it can have a really good effect on photos. If this was mine I'd take a tiny bit off the top, just so that the mountain peak wasn't bang on in the centre of the image but just above it. It's only a small change but I think it'd balance it out a bit more.

Welcome to Photocrowd’s ‘Landscapes’ contest for New Joiners! These contests are a chance for new members to introduce their photography to the community, and get a taste of how Photocrowd contests work. They can be entered by anyone within their first 28 days of joining Photocrowd. After 100 images have been submitted the contest closes and the Crowd will start rating the images. The Expert Judge will also be judging the images and writing reviews at the same time. All the winners, both Crowd and Expert, will be announced after 3 days of judging. Make sure you also check out our two other New Joiners contests - ‘People’ and ‘Animals’.
Honestly, moments like this are what being out taking photos is all about. I'm glad you guys stuck it out and waited, it's so easy to give up and call it a day when all you need is that tiny break. And look what you got for it, amazing light and a great view! I'd definitely crop this into a letterbox format as there's a lot of dead space at the bottom and it'd make a great panoramic image. The sky is blown out around the sun but to be honest who cares, what a great memory to bring home.
